Title: Human Resources Generalist

Location: Hybrid (On-Site + Work from Home)

Employment: FT Exempt

Salary: $66,560 - $70,264

Reports to: Executive Director


Organization Description:


Hollywood Food Coalition (HoFoCo) is a mission-driven non-profit organization addressing issues around homelessness and poverty in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. HoFoCo has four areas of operation: Community Dinner, Community Exchange, Community Wellness and Community Building. Our Community Dinner is the bedrock of our organization’s 37-year history of providing assistance to our most vulnerable community members.


Position Summary:


The Human Resources Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including hiring and interviewing staff, administering benefits and leave, and enforcing company policies and procedures. This position will be responsible for updating the Employee Handbook, maintaining all HR documentation and files, and informing the staff of any HR-related updates. This position will also work with relevant leadership team members to manage all matters relating to personnel. 


Duties and Responsibilities include:


  • Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resource functions, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, management, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Develops standardized onboarding process and onboards all employees.
  • Collects time cards at the end of each pay period to prepare for payroll.
  • Maintains all records in the company’s HRIS system.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents all matters related to HR, including compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, performance evaluations, etc.
  • Manages all job searches, including recruiting, interviewing, and facilitating the hiring of qualified individuals for open positions and working with department leaders throughout the hiring process.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Leads, attends, and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Implement performance evaluation process across the organization.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and technology in human resources, talent management, and employment law.  
  • Works with legal counsel as-needed on employment issues.
  • Maintains and updates the Employee Handbook.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in human resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Google Suite and related softwares.
  • Ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS system.
