Head of Finance and Operations

About the Role

A high-growth biotech startup that has recently closed a Series A financing by top tier VC investors. As we enter an exciting new phase of company development, we are seeking an exceptional and versatile individual to own and administer a wide variety of finance, operational, general, and administrative functions within the company.

The role will initially involve significant hands-on individual contribution, as well as leadership

and administrative capacity. Candidates that are highly effective in this role will have significant

potential for advancement within the company.

Job Responsibilities

● Budgeting and forecasting

● Compensation management, leveling, and equity for a small team

● Setup and administration of basic approval purchasing

● Administration and maintenance of cloud-based corporate records and external-facing

data rooms.

● Work directly with management to prepare board materials and slides on relevant topics

● Understand and organize the company's legal obligations to investors, clients,

technology licensors, and other 3rd parties. and take primary responsibility for

compliance.

● Management and oversight of several outsourced firms and consultants that perform

basic functions for the organization

Accounting and Tax

• e.g. overseeing purchasing workflows, monthly close, audit

Legal

• e.g. negotiating NDAs and employment agreements

IT

• e.g. Computers and tech stack (see below)

HR

• e.g. new hire onboarding, compliance

Facilities management

Webdevs

Recruiting and hiring

Grant administration

• Oversee office administration
• Oversight, optimization, and top-level administration of our corporate software stack, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Adobe, Slack, Expensify, Zoom, Carta, Gusto, Dropbox, HelloSign, Greenhouse, etc.
• Internal invention disclosure system to track inventions

Requirements

● B.A. or higher in finance, administration, or related field, with at least 8 years of experience, with at least 3 years being in significant leadership positions within the finance or operations organizations of other early- or mid-stage companies

● It is critical that the candidate bring a clear and sophisticated understanding of the Job Responsibilities above, including challenges and solutions that are relevant to an early stage venture-funded company.

● The candidate must have a can-do attitude, and the ability to work closely with the executive team to translate high-level priorities into efficient plans of action.

● The candidate must be able to communicate clearly and possess highly developed people skills.

● The candidate must be highly organized and reliable to take primary responsibility for critical projects, deadlines, and deliverables.

Compensation: $220,000 base salary + strong equity, 401(K), and medical, dental, vision insurance

• Performance bonus and salary increase post Series B (within 9 months)
