Job Description 

 

Our Shop Manager in the Ground Support and Equipment Department oversees the maintenance and repair workshop for all ground support equipment. This role involves managing a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring timely and efficient repair and maintenance of equipment like tugs, belt loaders, and ground power units. Our Shop Manager plans and schedules maintenance activities, implements quality control procedures, and ensures adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance. You will also manage inventory, order parts and supplies, and liaise with external vendors and suppliers. 

 

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK AS A GSE SHOP MANAGER 

 

  • You like working as a team, toward a common goal 
  • Oversee daily operations of the equipment maintenance and repair shop 
  • Manage and lead a team of mechanics and technicians in the maintenance of ground support equipment 
  • This position does include making repairs on vehicles and equipment 50% of time
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure equipment reliability and safety 
  • Monitor workshop activities to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations 
  • Coordinate with other departments for equipment needs and scheduling of maintenance work 
  • Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, ensuring availability for repair and maintenance tasks 
  • You have a great attention to detail 
  • You enjoy working with a team or individually to accomplish your tasks 
  • Several years of Management or Supervisory skills 
  • Like to build long term relationships with your customers 
  • Physical activity may include: 
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time 
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds or more 
  • Be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by terminal environment 
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus) 

 

 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum age of 18 years old 
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, to include documents 
  • 5 years of experience in managing a maintenance shop, preferably in aviation or related industry 
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in team management and development 
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, maintenance procedures, and safety regulations 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills 
  • Proficiency in inventory management and maintenance scheduling software 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities 
  • Flexibility with working hours, including availability for shifts during nights, weekends, and holidays 
  • Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and tablets 
  • Ability to pass a drug screen 
  • Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)
