Group Financial Controller

The Group Financial Controller is a key member of the finance senior leadership team and reports directly to the Global Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The role leads the Finance Controllership Team in its day-to-day financial management and all aspects of statutory reporting.

Reporting to the CFO, you will demonstrate capability in financial accounting and reporting. Your responsibilities will include overseeing end-to-end finance operations, supporting financial planning and analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, looking to make extensive improvements to procedures and controls after a recent system upgrade and implementation, as well as ad-hoc projects and requests as and when they come up. You will be involved in budgeting, annual audits (local and group), and tax assessments. You will be responsible for producing statutory reports and consolidation of management reporting for the FP&A team. You will own the Group working capital cycle.

The role is being recruited during an ongoing finance transformation project. As such, this presents the role owner with an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved at a critical period of change in shaping the functions future. This role works closely with partners, other functional heads, and all finance team members across the regions. We will continue to build a team around this role as required and in line with firm growth trajectory.

Location

Washington, DC (hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements in compliance with regulatory requirements and local GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) in all locations and on a consolidated basis
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: In collaboration with the Head of FP&A, deliver budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with department heads to develop accurate financial projections and ensure alignment with strategic objectives
  • Financial Analysis: Together with the FP&A team, provide support in delivering insightful financial analysis for decision-making, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and trend identification
  • Risk Management: Assess financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements
  • Cash Flow and Treasury Management: Manage cash flow to optimize liquidity, overseeing cash flow forecasting, monitoring banking activities, and maintaining relationships with financial institutions and other lenders
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, coordinating with external tax advisors as needed to minimize tax liabilities
  • Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data
  • Audit Management: Coordinate external audits, liaising with auditors and addressing audit findings in a timely manner
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Financial Systems Management: Support the implementation and oversee the maintenance of financial systems and software, driving efficiency and accuracy in financial processes
  • System Implementation & Process Improvements: DGA Group has recently implemented three new web-based systems:
    • Sage Intacct- as our global ERP
    • Scoro- as a project management system, and
    • Expensify – expense management
The Group Financial Controller, along with the newly appointed Finance Systems Manager and Senior Finance leadership team will be responsible for:

  • Designing and enforcing compliance with financial processes and procedures collaboratively across the controllership team
  • Supporting and providing continued training and education of these systems with ongoing focus on our team becoming system experts
  • Continued review of key internal controls and process improvements as new system modules are adopted

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred with at least five (5) years’ experience post qualification
  • Proven experience (minimum of eight (8) years) in a senior financial role, with a track record of success in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial regulations across US, Europe (IFRS) and Asia
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align financial initiatives with broader business objectives
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Evidence of ongoing study and continuous personnel development

Preferred

  • Leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team within internationally matrixed organisations
  • Proficiency in financial management software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in utilizing budget and reporting software (e.g. Data rails, Power BI)
  • Experience with multi-currency ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, SAP, or Oracle is desirable
  • A fast-paced learner who can hit the ground running, while maintaining composure and clarity of purpose
  • A track record of working and meeting tight reporting deadlines and willingness to roll up their sleeves to get the work done while looking for permanent automated improvements
  • Interest in new disciplines and personal development including leadership, communication and presentation, project management and systems implementation
  • Open to global travel (particularly Europe) to support local teams in person
