The Indiana Builders Association, Inc. (IBA) is a statewide not-for-profit trade association representing more than 2,600 member companies engaged in the residential and light commercial construction industry. Our advocacy team works with state leaders, policy makers, and industry leaders on public policies that promote our core mission of keeping housing safe and affordable.
The IBA seeks a governmental affairs intern for the 3-month, 2024 legislative session of the Indiana General Assembly. This paid internship is a minimum of 20 hours/week beginning in early January 202 and continuing through April 29, 2025. Compensation is $15/hour and includes parking.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support IBA’s lobbyists during the 2025 legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse (January-April 2025)
Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours/week in person, including some evening hours as necessary
Track specific housing-related legislation
Coordinate meetings with elected officials and stakeholders
Research issues that impact members
Create action alerts on priority issues and prepare weekly legislative report for members
Attend legislative committee meetings and provide summary of relevant action
Assist in IBA’s Legislative Day at the Statehouse
Other duties as directed
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of or interest in government, policy or the political process
Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening) for effective internal communication with IBA staff and members as well as external communication with elected officials and staff
Ability to research an issue from policy and political angle as it relates to the construction industry and to respond to legislative and member requests in a timely, professional manner
