Responsibilities
The Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics within the Department of Lab Medicine & Pathology has immediate opening for one full time, Laboratory Genetic Counselor supporting the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory. This is a fully remote position.
Genetic counselors play an integral role in the clinical genetic testing laboratories. The individual hired into this position will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with an established team of over 40 lab GCs and variant scientists with biochemical, cytogenetic, and molecular genetics laboratories. The lab GCs are supported by genetic counseling assistants and work closely with laboratory directors and laboratory personnel. This laboratory GC position reports to a genetic counselor supervisor.
Roles and responsibilities for the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory genetic counselor include:
Master of Science or Master of Arts in Genetic Counseling granted by a genetic counseling program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) required. ABGC Certification and MN licensure are required. Obtaining license in state of residence where applicable is recommended if employee works remotely in a state other than their state of employment; candidates are responsible for understanding licensure laws in their state of employment.
Professional knowledge of the rapidly changing principles and practice of medical, clinical, and laboratory genetics required. Must have effective oral and written presentation and communication skills, superior organizational skills and be able to work independently. Computer skills appropriate for laboratory and clinical case management necessary.

$91,977.60 - $138,049.60 / year; education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

- Client support in biochemical genetic test utilization
- Obtaining medical and diagnostic information for testing support and clinical correlation of biochemical test results
- Communication with ordering clinicians, relaying critical results, including the support of Newborn Screening results
- Performance of test maintenance support and laboratory process improvement
- Education of rotating student groups (genetic counseling graduate students, medical residents, and fellows)
- Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic**
