Game Studio Relations Manager

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Build and nurture relationships: Establish and maintain strong connections with game developers across the industry, from indie studios to major publishers.
  • Champion developer collaboration: Represent Backbone as a proactive partner in areas such as controller support, game discoverability, marketing, user acquisition, and more.
  • Advocate for developers: Act as the voice of game developers within Backbone, ensuring their needs and challenges are understood and addressed by internal teams.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to enhance Backbone's hardware and software, prioritizing developer interests and incentives.
  • Evangelize controller support: Promote the benefits of controller support to the developer community, driving adoption through strategic communication and partnerships.
  • Develop business opportunities: Identify and cultivate business partnership opportunities, including co-marketing initiatives, custom controller collaborations, and user acquisition revenue-sharing deals.
  • Measure and report success: Define key performance metrics for game developer partnerships and proactively report progress to stakeholders.
  • Travel: Expected travel to developer studios/sites is once per month nationally to start

Qualifications

  • Passion for gaming: Highly motivated individual with a deep understanding of the gaming industry and current trends.
  • Relationship builder: Skilled at building and maintaining strong relationships within the game development community.
  • Effective communicator: Clear communicator, both written and verbal, capable of conveying complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Game expertise: Strong understanding of game design principles and player engagement strategies.
  • Analytical thinker: Strong analytical skills to quickly organize and leverage data for informed decision-making with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Technical acumen: Sufficient technical domain expertise to effectively communicate developers’ technical needs and limitations to Backbone engineering teams.

Bonus

  • Mobile games: Experience with mobile game development, marketing, and business development - including a familiarity with the challenges of game development and the incentives that motivate developers.
  • Industry network: A strong network within the game development community is advantageous.
  • Relevant knowledge: Understanding of the differences in user behavior between native mobile gaming, remote play, and cloud gaming.
  • Relevant experience: Experience with subscription gaming services and/or connected gaming devices.
