Freelance Museum Educator

The Museum Educator is a freelance position. An ideal candidate will be self-sufficient and passionate about art, Japanese culture, and informal education. Educators are expected to lead K-12 schools groups on 1-hour experiences focusing on rotating exhibitions and engage students through storytelling, inquiry, and hands-on activities. Rotating exhibitions run from October to January, and March to June.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Museum Educator responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in paid information sessions regarding seasonal exhibition contents. (Fall & Spring)
  • Creating age appropriate lesson plans for rotating exhibitions for K-12 groups.
  • Researching new content as needed in relation to rotating exhibitions.
  • Preparing art materials, pictures and photographs, and any other materials needed for tour enrichment.
  • Utilizing inquiry-base techniques to engage students from diverse backgrounds on gallery tours.
  • Leading groups safely through a gallery space.
  • Assessing performance and integrate feedback as needed.
