The Formulator is responsible for developing and commercializing formulations for a specified portfolio of products of a variety of dosage and delivery forms including tablets, softgels, capsules and gummies. This role is specifically focused on formulating alternate delivery forms (gummies) and would be a perfect fit for an individual interested in enhancing existing formulas, identifying innovative solutions to new and existing problems, and requires understanding of raw ingredient specifications and their impact on finished products. Formulator reports to the Manager of Research & Development.

Key Responsibilities

Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include:

  • Overseeing and monitoring bench top, pilot, manufacturing scale-up and verification batches. Provide technical and scientific input, support, and assistance to other technical disciplines.
  • Writing, editing and updating batch records, raw material specifications, SOPs, and technical reports, ensuring efficient operations in assigned project areas.
  • Supporting technology transfer activities; guiding product and process development activities, working closely with Strategic Sourcing, Analytical Research Services, Quality Control, Quality Standards and Plant Operations team to deliver successful production processes for supplements into the commercial environment. Leading technical transfer process related to sending existing products outside or bringing existing products in-house.
  • Working closely with key business partners to find synergies related to maximizing customer value and enhancing margins through formulation improvements.

You’ll be most successful in this role if you have:

  • Successfully delivered complex projects critical to an organization’s strategy, especially in start-up situations or dynamic markets
  • Hands-on experience with many formulation and process related instruments/equipment
  • Open-mindedness and willingness to continually learn something new on an ongoing basis
  • Capability to effectively address and simplify complex issues to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with demonstrated process orientation, even in changing or ambiguous situations facilitating critical pathways.


Capabilities & Skills Required

In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science or other relevant science degree.
  • 2+ years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or Masters degree with 0-1+ years of experience.
  • Competent knowledge and practical experience with supplement and/or pharmaceutical and/or functional foods product development, processing equipment and techniques and regulatory requirements.
  • Confectionnary (gummies and jellies) hands-on formulation and scale-up experience.
  • Proven scientific and technical ability to design and execute experimental and/or protocol studies as well as statistically analyze data, author and review protocols and reports and present the data to appropriate parties.
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, communication, and data management skills.

Annual Pay

Annual Pay Range

$102,193.00 - $153,340.00

This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.
