Synergy Interactive is partnering with a tech startup in the Chicagoland area to fill a Financial Controller Position. This direct hire position is fully onsite in the West Loop area and will be overseeing all of the startup's financial operations including reporting, budgeting and payments. Bachelor's Degree minimum as well as CPA/CMA experience, GAAP and ERP system experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure reporting is timely and accurate, adhering to GAAP and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and maintain internal financial controls.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process for both organizations.
  • Monitor and adjust forecasts based on actual performance and evolving business conditions.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.

Cash Management and Bill Payments:

  • Oversee cash flow planning and ensure funds are available as needed.
  • Manage and execute the payment of bills and expenses for both organizations.
  • Collaborate with external accounting partners to ensure accurate and timely financial transaction processing.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Coordinate and manage annual audits with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to protect assets.

External Partnerships:

  • Serve as the primary contact with external accounting firms for bookkeeping, payroll, and tax filings.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between internal operations and external accounting partners.

Team Leadership:

  • Cultivate a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance team.
  • Offer training and development opportunities to enhance team members' skills, if applicable.

Strategic Support:

  • Collaborate with the executive team to support strategic initiatives and business planning.
  • Conduct financial analysis to aid in decision-making processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including a minimum of 3 years in a controller or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
