In this role, you'll be responsible for approaching and supporting families during the organ and tissue donation process. You'll work remotely, assisting hospitals 365 days a year to ensure that all potential donor families are offered the opportunity for donation via telecommunication.
Responsibilities
- Fulfill an on-call schedule of 12-hour shifts, including some weekends and holidays (current shifts available: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm or 12:00 pm - Midnight).
- Approach and educate donor families about organ and tissue donation, advocating for donation while respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
- Help families understand and accept the diagnosis of death as described by the primary care physician.
- Assess the legal next-of-kin's readiness to engage in a discussion about the opportunity for organ and tissue donation.
- Maintain best practice skills in obtaining authorization, completing all required documentation.
- Provide initial follow-up to donor families after donation.
- Participate in required meetings and trainings when not responding to a case.
- Complete assigned trainings within defined timelines.
- Previous experience approaching families for organ and tissue donation at an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) is required.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, health sciences, or a related field; or equivalent experience in another OPO.
- Experience in hospice care, bereavement counseling, crisis intervention, or social work is preferred.
- Previous hospital experience is preferred.
- Spanish and/or Portuguese language proficiency is preferred.
- CPE, CLS, or Social Work License is preferred.
