FAMILY MINISTRIES PASTOR

Summary/Objective

The Family Ministries Pastor oversees the vision and direction of the ministry to those who are aged birth through young adults. This person will ensure that the philosophy of ministry is in alignment with Southeast vision, values and pillars.

Essential Functions

  • Help Family Ministries staff partner with parents to help them realize God's dream for their children and students with the goal of producing those who are authentic disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Hire, manage and coach staff to carry out the vision and goals of Family Ministries.
  • Build a team of staff and volunteers to work cohesively together so that each department is staffed adequately, has appropriate resources and is most effectively positioned to minister to children and students.
  • Develop, oversee and evaluate the Family Ministries team so that all employees are working well together, have a unified vision and are realizing their goals with excellence.
  • Be the steward of the vision for Family Ministries.
  • Oversee and plan the Family Ministries budget in collaboration with the Family Ministry staff.
  • Work with staff to write annual goals and analyze on a quarterly (or monthly) basis that these are being obtained.
  • Ensure excellent and frequent communication with parents so they are well-informed and have regular opportunities to give input and participate in Family Ministries.
  • Recruit, equip and appreciate volunteer teams together with Family Ministries staff. Ensure healthy relationships and longevity, and foster community among volunteer teams.
  • Work with other ministries to ensure high level of kid, youth and young adult involvement.
  • Serve on and work with the Executive Team to develop and grow not just Family Ministries, but the church as a whole.
  • Work with Executive Team to strategically plan for long-term use of facilities that are related to Family Ministries.
  • Create a safe physical environment for all elements of kids, youth and young adult ministry.
  • Ensure administrative functions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assess and adjust all essential systems within the Family Ministry team to ensure a streamlined effort and improved experience for staff and families; main systems include check in, new family process, volunteer onboarding, and curated family communication lists.
  • Utilize every possible communication channel to advertise ministry programs/events.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings, and other required activities.
  • Support all major Family Ministry events (retreats, events, VBS, camps, etc).
  • Ensure Family Ministry calendars are effectively managed.
  • Manage church database requirements for the Family Ministry department.
  • Perform other duties, as needed.

Time Requirements

This position will be completed 40+ hours per week. This role will be performed Sunday through Thursday, with occasional evenings, Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desktop computers and telephones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand for sustained periods of time; lift, push, pull items in excess of 30 lbs; walk and reach with hands and arms.

Requirements

Professional/Education

  • 5+ years experience in pastoral ministry; experience with youth and children’s ministry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Youth Ministry, Childrens Ministry, Bible or related field preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred, including executive level leadership.
  • High capacity to manage multiple projects and multi-task.
  • Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of job.
  • Good understanding and insight into philosophy of ministry to children and students.
  • Talent in communicating the vision of Family Ministries to children, students, parents, volunteers and staff.
  • The relational acumen to relate well with parents of all ages.
