The Clinical Research Units provide dedicated facilities and staff to clinical research faculty who conduct clinical and translational research studies at the university. Oversees the administrative, financial, and clinical operations of the Clinical Research Units (CRUs) at Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (MHHS) and Harris Health (LBJ). Partners with the Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) Program Director and Chief Academic Officer to lead strategic initiatives to develop and implement various clinical research services, including clinical visits and laboratory processes, as well as potential expansion of CRU locations. Responsible for the growth and development of interventional CRUs at all CCTS partner institutions. Directs all staff, training, budgets and finances, regulations, exceptional service, and growth of the CRU programs.
Position Key Accountabilities
Develops and oversees financial operations of a study coordinator/nurse service center for CRU investigators encompassing regulatory and study management services for clinical research trials.
Assists with development of initiatives to transform processes within the CRU to enhance the clinical research enterprise.
Oversees the design and execution of program improvement plans derived from annual evaluations of the clinical services of the CRU.
Promotes visibility/availability of the CRU clinical and coordinator services throughout the UT System institutions (TRCC) and CCTS affiliations.
Develops new CRU sites/initiatives at UTHealth Houston.
Helps to develop and operationalize CRUs at CCTS partner institutions.
Develops and oversees fiscal budget for front office, business, clinical personnel and equipment in the UT and LBJ CRU.
Ensures proper budgeting, invoicing and payment for all individual study activities conducted by the CRUs.
Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Certification/Skills
Exceptional leadership and communication skills with experience in business development.
Minimum Education
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Nursing, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant Studies,
or a Biomedical terminal degree such as Medical Doctor (MD) required
Minimum Experience
Seven (7) years of experience managing an extensive clinical research program required.
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
