The Executive Director of Dental Health is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the strategic and operational aspects of the MUSC Health System wide Dental Program expansion.

The leader plays a critical role in driving the growth and success of the program ensuring seamless integration with the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) leadership, other ICCE (service lines), enterprise clinical departments/divisions, and developing and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance the program's effectiveness and growth.

Job Description

  • (20%) Strategic Planning and Program Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the expansion of the dental health program, aligning it with the organization's overall strategic objectives in partnership with the College of Dental Medicine.
    • Develop and follow a system approach to technology to enhance patient care and collaboration across the health system.
    • Identify opportunities for program expansion, improvement, and innovation based on state market landscape, access needs, market trends, patient needs, and industry best practices.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define goals, objectives, and performance metrics for the dental health program.
    • Develop and execute marketing plan with System Marketing and Communication Department
  • (20%) Operational Management and Process Optimization:
    • Oversee the operational build, leadership of the dental health program, in collaboration with CDM for efficient and effective delivery of services, creating a playbook for dental site launches in strategic locations.
    • Analyze and streamline clinical workflows, optimizing processes to enhance patient care, maximize resource utilization, and improve operational efficiency.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as primary care, otolaryngology, neurology, and pulmonology, to integrate dental health services seamlessly into the broader healthcare ecosystem.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track program performance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Management Duties:
      • Policy & procedure development.
      • Development and management of staffing.
      • Development, management, and application of budgets.
      • Staff training and competency evaluation.
      • Oversight of safety and regulatory guidelines.
      • Assures timely billing and appropriate coding of billed procedures.
      • Interacts with the physicians, medical director, and senior management.
      • Assures program meets accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • (10%) Quality & Innovation:
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry guidelines related to dental health services.
    • Align with CDM leadership to develop and implement quality assurance programs to monitor and assess the quality of care delivered within the dental health program.
    • Collaborate with the quality management team to conduct audits, address identified gaps, and implement corrective actions.
    • Drive innovation initiatives within the dental health program, identifying opportunities to improve patient outcomes, enhance care delivery, and differentiate the organization in the dental medicine field.
    • Stay abreast of dental care advancements in partnership with CDM leadership and integrate them into the program to enhance diagnostic capabilities, treatment modalities, patient engagement, and care.
  • (10%) Collaboration and Relationship Management:
    • Foster seamless collaboration and effective communication with physician, clinical and administrative leadership of the CDM, as well as other internal departments, to ensure seamless patient care coordination, referral systems and access.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including referral sites, durable medical equipment providers, and insurance companies, to optimize collaboration and referral networks.
  • (20%) Financial Management and Resource Allocation:
    • Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for the dental health program, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial sustainability.
    • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement strategies to optimize revenue generation and cost control.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to develop financial forecasts, perform financial analysis, and support business decision-making.


  • (10%) Team Leadership and Professional Development:
    • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the dental health program staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
    • Recruit, train, and evaluate team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality care, with focus on continuous retention efforts
    • Promote diversity and a culture of continuous learning, staying updated with advancements in dental medicine, and encouraging professional development opportunities for the team.


  • (10%) Research and education
    • Collaborate with the CDM to advance the university education mission.
    • Partner with Academic Integration Department to support advancement of planned Graduate Residency Programs
Requirements

Additional Job Description

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a dental health program or related healthcare setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of dental medicine, dental practice operation planning build, diagnostic procedures, and treatment modalities.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, including ambulatory workflow management, process optimization, and quality improvement.
  • Experience in strategic planning, program development, and market analysis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards in dental medicine.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and utilization of technology to drive decision making.
