What will I be doing?
The chosen candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of epidemiologists, statisticians, and Army personnel. Together, they will utilize Soldier performance health and readiness data for analyses, interpretation, and reporting of results. The data at your disposal includes demographic, administrative, medical, and performance data from the U.S. Army. Your role will involve assisting in the design, development, execution, and use of statistical and epidemiological approaches for research studies and program evaluation. You will also contribute to the analyses and evaluations of methodologies used to ensure the validity and reliability of the analytic output. Additionally, you will work with team members on data applications, data visualization, and manipulation for computational modeling. The majority of our studies focus on injury, behavioral health, traumatic brain injury, nutrition, and performance.

What is the anticipated start date?
Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a one-year, part-time research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the benefits?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by USARIEM. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

About USARIEM
The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), in Natick, Massachusetts has four divisions: Military Nutrition, Military Performance, Thermal and Mountain Medicine, and Research Support. By leveraging its unique capabilities and facilities with industry, academia, and the government, USARIEM produces various essential products, including performance optimization doctrine, preventive medicine, planning doctrine, materiel development support, physiological monitoring strategies and predictive algorithms, and Health Hazard Assessments.
About ORISE
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. Qualifications
An acceptable candidate should have or be pursuing a graduate degree or above in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, or a relevant field.
The Following Are Preferred Skills And Are Not Required
Prior experience in leading the design and development of epidemiological projects to include statistical analysis plans
Be able to apply traditional and novel statistical and epidemiological methods to analyze relations between risk factors and health outcomes, including time to event analyses and modeling
Proficiency in SAS programming language is essential
Experience with R programming language and SPSS
Experience communicating with scientific collaborators and writing scientific reports
Experience in using electronic health records (ICD-9/10 codes) for research purposes
Experience with injury and behavioral health research studies
