What role you will play in our team

The Advisor collects and consolidates environmental data, including waste, water, and air, conducts QA/QC reviews, and stewards environmental data for internal and external reporting. The position assists with ensuring the company’s environment and regulatory obligations are fulfilled, provides environment and regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders and works with regulators to ensure that requirements are understood and fulfilled.

What you will do

  • Oversee the preparation and stewardship of compliance plans for operational permits / licenses / approvals - where appropriate, interface and coordinate activities
  • Recommend appropriate avoidance / mitigation measures for environmental, socioeconomic, regulatory, and/or health issues / risks and oversee their implementation. Provide support for development of Environmental Aspects Assessment (EAA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
  • Assist in the stewardship of EMGL environmental data (e.g., corporate reporting, Government reporting)
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement Production Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Management processes, as described in the Integrated SSH&E Plan
  • Interface with engineering and operation execution teams to ensure environmental, socioeconomic, regulatory, and health requirements / standards (including ExxonMobil Upstream Environmental Standards) are properly executed, implemented and managed
  • Identify and obtain environmental permits / licenses / approvals in a timely manner; track / steward the approvals process and compliance status
  • Oversight and management of third-party contractors as needed
  • Develop and support implementation of an environmental management program which includes performance monitoring procedures for environmental, socioeconomic, regulatory
  • Assist in coordinating the development of Environmental Business Plans
  • Assist with implementation of the Environmental and Socioeconomic Management Plan (ESMP)
  • Provide training and guidance to EMGL operations as needed to facilitate awareness of the ESMP
  • Meet with regulatory agencies as needed to assist with reporting, licensing, and permitting needs that may arise
  • Support stakeholder engagement meetings
  • Support environmental monitoring and initiatives (e.g. produced water, flaring, biodiversity studies, etc.)
  • Facilitate the development and submission of regulatory applications for EMGL
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and regulatory requirements
  • Interpret and apply regulations that impact the company and communicate requirements to affected functions
  • Support and participate in regulatory workshops with regulators and other stakeholders as needed
  • Work with EMGL personnel to ensure compliance requirements are understood and plans are fully executed
  • Assist in evaluating new and proposed legislation; communicate the implications of new legislation to EMGL
  • Assist in ensuring ongoing obligations to regulators are met in the compliance database
  • Interface with the Law Department, Public Affairs, and affected line management during communication with regulators


About You

Skills and Qualifications

  • Possess an accredited University degree (Bachelors or Higher) in Engineering, Physical / Biological Sciences, or other technical field related to SSH&E
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience; preferably in the environmental or regulatory field
  • Experience in interpreting and applying regulations; regulatory licensing / permitting

  • Good team builder and self-directed
  • Good reading comprehension skills
  • Good interpersonal relationships with diverse workgroups, including government and other stakeholders; effectively interacts in office and field environments
  • Adaptable to changing priorities
  • Good organizational skills and proven ability to work in a positive team manner
