The EHS Specialist works with the Head of Human Resources and the corporate EHS Manager, documenting all EHS policies, protocols, standards, procedures, and other reporting responsibilities. Will be required to submit accident & incident reports to corporate and work auditors to help the facility achieve and maintain certification. Job duties and responsibilities are subject to change depending on the department's needs and determined by management.


  • Inspect the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Draft inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records and safety data sheets/binder for chemicals and develops a process to ensure chemicals are maintained in the safety data sheet binder.
  • Schedule and maintain monthly and yearly testing of all fire extinguishers onsite.
  • Maintain emergency exit sheets around the building, including any revisions/revision dates.
  • Develop a stretch and flex program/posters and ensure compliance, promoting safe work practices in daily operations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify root causes and develop strategies for prevention.
  • Monitor and report on key safety compliance indicators to track progress towards goals.
  • Stay current on relevant environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Understanding safety and environmental regulations and agreement standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, DHS, Workers' Compensation), inspection procedures, audits, hazard reviews, and incident investigation techniques.
  • Manage worker's compensation cases and keep a log of all injuries/recordables throughout the year.
  • Keep track of safety "near misses" and report on how we can avoid this in the future.
  • Have a deep understanding of ergonomics to develop an ergonomic program and perform risk assessments to improve workplace safety.
  • Work collaboratively with all facility levels to establish and maintain a safety-focused culture.
  • Liaise with site supervisors/managers to support major initiatives while maintaining a 100% compliance rate with the facility's federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Contribute to establishing and implementing EHS procedures, systems, and programs for current and future undertakings to eliminate or minimize risk, mitigate incidents and injuries, and promote health and safety at the facility.
  • Provide and document health and safety training to all site personnel.
  • Ensure that employees have access to effective mechanisms for addressing EHS concerns promptly and follow up as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement in compliance processes, employee training, and EHS performance while keeping computerized EHS metrics and records and participating in companywide EHS meetings.
  • Support integrating EHS processes and safe work practices into daily operations.
  • Lead EHS initiatives as an integrated business partner to support achieving site goals by implementing a robust EHS Management System.
  • Provide oversight and leadership of EHS capital projects.
  • Identify areas for improvement, define effective strategies and goals for change, and drive a performance-based culture.
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies.
  • Support development and implement a strong environmental management program to ensure compliance excellence and drive sustainable improvements across the site.
  • Support a rigorous and proactive incident and injury management program that utilizes early intervention and strong case management to reduce the risk and severity of injuries.
  • Support a robust Management of Change program that effectively strategizes with key stakeholders to ensure all EHS requirements are identified and implemented to efficiently complete critical project milestones.
  • Functional lead for Site EHS compliance, business continuity, and contingency planning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
