Entry Level Geotechnical/Environmental Engineering Consultant: Applied GeoScience, Inc. (Schaumburg/Chicago Area) 


SUMMARY 

We are an engineering consulting company looking for an entry level geotechnical and environmental engineering consultant. Duties include general project management and related correspondence and documentation. Must project a professional company image through in-person and phone interaction. After an initial 3-month training period, this position can be a hybrid position allowing the employee to work from home and travel to job sites throughout Chicago and the surrounding area (estimated 50% field work, variable based on season). This can be a full-time position or a part-time arrangement that fits the candidate's lifestyle and career goals.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Duties include preparation and assistance with: letters, reports (e.g. Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, geotechnical reports, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Leaking Underground Storage Tank and Site Remediation Program submittals, etc.), proposals, change orders, bid related paperwork, subcontractor agreements, meeting minutes, daily job reports, purchase orders, invoices, certificates of insurance, file creation, electronic and hard copy filing, faxes, mail, etc. 

• Perform field activities to support geotechnical, materials testing, construction inspection, and environmental services. 

• Perform laboratory analyses in accordance with applicable standards and company quality management plan. 

• General office administration, including but not limited to: answering and screening phone calls, data entry, maintaining and ordering office supplies, and maintaining office equipment. 

• Create and modify documents using Microsoft Office, Excel, gINT Software, and Windows Visio. 

• Support staff in assigned project based work. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• 0-3 years of experience related to engineering (civil, environmental, or geotechnical), construction management, or similarly related field. 

• Valid work permit or US citizenship required. 

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, environmental, or geotechnical) preferred, will also consider environmental science, geology, construction management, project management, or equivalent education and experience. 

• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. 

• Strong oral and technical writing skills. 

• Use of personal vehicle. 

• Excellent computer skills using standard Microsoft programs, including Microsoft Office and Excel.  

• Knowledge of standard telephone protocol. 

• Candidate must be very organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, have an outgoing personality, dependable, and be able to work effectively as a team player. 

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact well with clients and contractors. 

• EIT Certification preferred (or able to obtain their EIT within 6 months) but not required. 


COMPENSATION 

• $22-24/hour starting rate, plus $100/month toward healthcare or other costs, mileage and expense reimbursement
