Packsize is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D Hardware team. We want someone who is passionate about the product development process specifically around the ongoing sustainment and development of a product. You will be collaborating with other engineers (locally and globally), product managers, product quality, and manufacturers in building reliable, on-demand packaging systems. We want you to come in and ask well thought out questions, carry out solid fundamental engineering, do independent research and collaborate effectively with your peers. We have many R&D and product sustaining projects going on and look forward to new ideas and diverse, creative thinking to help solve difficult problems.

What you’ll bring:


  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in design and manufacturing
  • Advanced SolidWorks user
  • Promotes the scientific method and engineering best practices
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in automation technology, industrial automation design and system architecture
  • Knowledgeable in design for manufacturing and serviceability
  • Very competent using PDM/PLM tools/software and managing engineering change (ECO)
  • Track record of successful sustaining engineering and project management
  • Capable in evaluating quotations, specifications, and documentation to discern functional requirements
  • Established interpersonal skills to collaborate in team environments while maintaining individual duties effectively
  • Well versed in reading part and assembly drawings including dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), and technical requirements
  • Working knowledge of PLC’s or embedded systems, machine automation and programming
  • Demonstrate lean and design thinking disciplines and mindsets
  • Show curiosity and humility
  • Can read and reasonably follow electrical and pneumatics schematics

What you’ll do:


  • Manage CAD data and machine documentation and communicate these to manufacturers and the organization
  • Provide system level machine design input
  • Assist in the design, analysis and testing of mechanical components and assemblies for design improvements
  • Document and implement new designs and design changes using ECO’s and ECN’s
  • Provide input during design reviews
  • Oversee testing for design verification, design validation, and continuation engineering
  • Interface with the Product Quality team to investigate issues and obtain feedback on machine performance
  • Collaborate with other engineers, particularly on engineering design best practices
  • Demonstrate knowledge of internal product and technology development processes
  • Help lead troubleshooting and debugging efforts
  • Conceive and write product requirements and test plans
  • Enable the successful transfer of a new machine design to production
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities
  • Bring an optimistic and positive attitude

A few other things:


  • Up to 15% travel as needed
  • Ability to do the physical work necessary to fabricate prototypes (using machine shop tools, turning wrenches etc…) and building machines
