Job Description
The Christ Hospital Health Network (TCHHN) Emergency Medical Services Coordinator will be the primary liaison for emergency referral sources such as EMS transport providers, hospitals and other acute care facilities within primary and secondary TCHHN service areas. The EMS coordinator will be responsible for providing education, training and practical feedback relating to pre-hospital care, The EMS coordinator will work in conjunction with the Emergency Department (ED) Leadership, Specialty Program Leaders and TCHHN PR and Marketing to promote TCHHN as the preferred regional destination for emergency care.
Responsibilities
Develop and strengthen partnerships with regional Emergency Departments and EMS providers that refer and transport patients to TCHHN Emergency Department and clinical care services. Coordinate with Emergency Department Leadership and TCHHN PR/Marketing to enhance EMS network partnerships, with attention to growing TCHHN clinical care case referrals. Coordinate with Specialty Program Leaders to strengthen relationships with network and community partners as well as key ground and air emergency transport services. Provide strategic input for developing and growing these network affiliations.
Provide educational programs, practical feedback and training to ground and air EMS transport services through on-location programs, classes and TCHHN in-house conferences. Acts as a resource, educator and preceptor for team members and students.
Manage and report relevant data for pre-hospital care for compliance to established protocols. Provide feedback to EMS management and personnel regularly and recommend process improvement plans to achieve best-practice.
Participate in appropriate TCHHN committees and workgroups. Serve as the TCHHN representative on community and regional task forces such as the Greater Cincinnati Health Council EMS coordinator group and Southwest Ohio Pre-Hospital Care Committee and seek out leadership roles in these organizations. Represent TCHHN at strategically-relevant community events.
Participate in TCHHN safety and experience follow up and incident reporting.
Re-design, budget for and maintain an EMS workspace in both EDs for visiting EMS staff. Maintain supplies, refreshments, educational materials to create a professional, welcoming environment.
Assume responsibility for professional self-development. This position also contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others as directed.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of pre-hospital care or other healthcare experience, to include educational duties is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Detailed knowledge of pre-hospital care protocols and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including effective teaching abilities for medical and community audiences. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Current EMT-P certification in Ohio and/or registered as a nurse in Ohio. Current BLS, ACLS and CE Instructor certifications are also required. ACLS Instructor certification and EMS Instructor certification is strongly preferred.
