In the role of EHS Specialist I, you will provide technical assistance in the development and implementation of Workplace Health & Safety Programs. The EHS Specialists will play a key role in maintaining compliance, incident reporting and analysis process and work closely with supervisors, engineers and other stakeholders to develop and implement corrective actions preventing recurrence. With the committed support of SMC Management, promote a culture focused on safety and injury prevention to maintain and implement best practices for a comprehensive EHS Management.

Other Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, implements and manages written safety and health programs and policies to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Develop annual company safety and health goals.
  • Identify and review company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
  • Participate in new product/process reviews including process hazard analysis, operator training, etc.
  • Support plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Lead follow-up reviews for action items assigned from incidents and risk assessments, while engaging with key stakeholders from assignment through completion and verification of assigned actions to ensure on-time closure.
  • Communicate all findings, concerns, and deficiencies to responsible management.
  • Maintains safety library (e.g. videos, regulations, reference manuals).
  • Manage site safety committee meetings.
  • Assists in the implementation of Hazard Communication program and preparation of applicable environmental reports.
  • Review process operating procedures and provide input for safety and health considerations.
  • Periodically audits practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Advises management of regulatory changes.
  • Lead safety incident investigations, develop root cause analysis, and develop & assign corrective actions. Verify the appropriateness and effectiveness of action plans associated with incidents.
  • Lead risk assessments such as hazard assessments, ergonomic assessments, etc. as needed to reduce workplace injuries. Verify the appropriateness and effectiveness of action plans associated with assessments.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Routine internal reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual updates).
  • Conduct safety related trainings.
  • Lead and manage projects from requirements through deployment, identifying scope, schedules, implementation plans, risk mitigation, budget, resources, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least 4 years’ experience working in Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Experience with Visio and CAD based software.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SMC.
  • Advanced applied knowledge of health and safety programs including LOTO, Electrical Safety, Working at Heights, Hazard Communication, Crane and Hoist, Confined Space, Walking and Working Surfaces, Lasers, Machine Guarding, Hazardous and Highly Toxic Gases, etc. is required.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Professional License or Certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.)

ADA Requirements:

  • Stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach or otherwise move frequently
  • Occasional repetitive motion and grasping
  • Occasional climbing to reach areas on machines or racks
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
  • Typically sits, grasps items or performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
  • Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection

Annual Salary Range $62,300 - $84,500. Position will report to the Manager, Manufacturing Operations - Molding and is not a remote position.
