Reports To: Vice Principal and Dean of Students

Classification: Non-exempt

Hours: 20 hours per week, 12-months

Job Summary: The Educational Support Specialist works closely with the Student Services department to support learning for all students.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage team of Academic Support personnel to ensure students with ISPs are successful in the classroom.
  • Assist in creation of student ISPs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and guidance counselors in implementation of student ISPs.
  • Collaborate with Study Lab teachers and students to ensure a continuum of services..
  • Manage a caseload of students to ensure ISP expectations are being met in the classroom.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and students regarding student ISPs and progress towards goals.
  • Participate in admissions process for students with academic needs.
  • Train and coordinate the work of Inclusion PTAs (peer teaching assistants).
  • Plan and promote relevant professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with teacher consultant from All Belong.
  • Partner with District 94 to coordinate referrals and evaluations.
  • Champion a vision of belonging for all learners among faculty and staff and help create a community where each student can experience belonging in a biblically-grounded, Christ-centered high school.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in education or related field with relevant training in Special Education, and three years of classroom experience or case management experience in education. This person will have knowledge of and experience in best practices for academic support in a secondary education school setting.

Additionally, this individual will have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; have experience building collaborative teams; lead in the research and implementation of new and innovative ideas; demonstrate understanding of different student learning profiles; and display a positive attitude and show genuine concern for people with learning differences. Finally, this person must be a self-starter who takes initiative and is proactive rather than reactive; is organized with a strong attention to detail; and is prepared to develop procedures to ensure repeatable systems.
