Job title: Education Manager

  • 1.0FTE (32 - 36 hours flexible, Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm, and Friday from 9 am to 1 pm). Must be available to attend evening and weekend meetings as required.
  • Hybrid: 60% Remote and 40% in-person, as needed
  • Pay Range: $26.71 - $34.72 hourly
  • In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including:

  • generous paid time off (base accrual rate of 6% of paid hours), (Example: Working at 36 hours per week, it would be around 14 days);
  • paid holidays (4 weeks of company holiday and 11* federal holidays, *if a federal holiday falls during company holiday the day is still only paid once);
  • after 3 months, a 401(k) retirement plan, with an employer blanket contribution (not just a match!) of 5% of your salary;
  • and monthly transportation stipend ($120 for those working at least 16 hours per week, $60 for those working less than 16 hours, but at least 4 hours per week. 100% remote & out of area employees ineligible)

About Geeking Out Kids Of Color (GOKiC)

GOKiC, www.gokic.org, is a BIPOC-led nonprofit organization with a mission of the liberation of BIPOC youth through technology and mentorship by developing decolonized tech education programs to nurture community leaders of change. Our board of directors is BIPOC-led, focusing on decolonial leadership and governance.

The Education Manager at Geeking Out Kids of Color (GOKiC) plays a vital role in overseeing and managing the education team and programs. This hybrid position involves both remote and on-site work, leading a team of approximately ten (10) dedicated education professionals. GOKiC is looking for someone with strong experience in program management, people management, strategic planning, and team building to strengthen our current Education program and guide its growth. They should also have knowledge in using a decolonized lens to create equitable programming. The Education Manager plays a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our education initiatives and ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs aligned with our mission and goals. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this role is pivotal in maintaining organizational excellence and impact.

Essential Functions

Program Leadership and Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive education strategy, in line with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Oversee all education programs, ensuring their effectiveness, quality, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to the education team, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Monitor program performance, assess outcomes, and identify areas for improvement, making data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate educational components into overall organizational strategies.
  • Check-ins and Group Meetings
  • Troubleshooting issues and coordinating resources
  • Planning and Facilitating Leadership Summits
  • Ability to step in and cover classes as needed, ensuring continuity and support for educational programs

Team Supervision And Development

  • Lead and manage a team of education professionals, including educators and curriculum developers.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Mentor and support team members in their professional growth, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration within the team, promoting a shared vision and goals.

Curriculum Development And Evaluation

  • Oversee the development and implementation of innovative and evidence-based curricula, ensuring alignment with educational standards and best practices.
  • Regularly review and evaluate existing educational materials and resources, updating them as needed.
  • Stay abreast of current trends, research, and advancements in education, incorporating them into program development.

Community Engagement And Partnership

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with external partners to enhance program offerings and secure resources to support educational initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in educational conferences and events, showcasing our expertise and promoting our programs.

Budget And Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the education department's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Monitor expenses, maintain financial records, and provide regular reports to the administration team.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Ability to use PC computers and MS Office programs with competency. Ability to use websites such as Google Drive, Calendar, Docs, etc.
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of nonprofit program coordination, education program management, or equivalent experience

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of educational theories, best practices, and curriculum development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards in the education sector.
  • Must be available to attend evening and weekend meetings, mornings as needed.
  • Experience working with multicultural youth who are overcoming multiple barriers to success.
  • Experience in engaging and managing volunteers.
  • Knowledgeable about gender theory, critical race theory, and decolonization in education.
  • Relevant lived experiences that align with the experiences of the youth we serve is highly valued and considered an asset.
  • Must be a self-starter, dependable, have strong problem-solving skills, and have the ability to use good judgment as necessary.
  • Must be committed to creating and sustaining a learning environment in which students feel safe, supported, and encouraged; foster an environment that is inclusive, culturally rich, and bias-free.
  • Interest in teaching Computer Science and/or Coding and curriculum building (curriculum building is in coordination with GOKiC’s Tech Curriculum Coordinator).
  • Multilingual skills are a plus.

  • Hybrid/remote setting combined with travel and responsibilities performed in and around the service delivery area. All staff work from home and are in person as needed based on their job duties and responsibilities.
  • As of October 18, 2021, GOKiC staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption has been approved. Philosophical exemptions are not permitted. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.
