Sign - On Bonus $2,000.00

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Head Start Harford County, is currently seeking a Early Head Start Teacher who will be responsible for (1) building on child and family strengths to support school readiness goals and social competence; (2) managing the classroom in a manner that creates a stimulating and nurturing environment for the growth, well-being and development of the child; (3) establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment; (4) advancing social, physical and intellectual competence through positive guidance and intentional learning experiences that build on strengths and are responsive to each child’s needs; (5) establishing positive and productive relationships with families and engaging them in their child’s learning. Work Schedule Monday- Friday 8am-3:30 pm

Work Schedule Monday- Friday 8am-3:30 pm
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure that children are properly supervised at all times and take appropriate safety precautions for children’s well-being.
- Select materials and equipment and arrange the classroom to provide a well-managed, welcoming environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level of the children.
- Develop lesson plans and incorporate into classroom instruction, the principles of individualized instruction based on on-going assessment of the progress and accomplishments of each child. Create a learning environment that will appropriately nurture and support each child’s growth and development
- Provide developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, experiences and activities that:
- Help children acquire and use language as a means of communicating their needs, thoughts, and feelings.
- Support the physical development of children.
- Stimulate children to explore and express their creative abilities in music, movement, art, and dramatic play.
- Encourage reasoning, problem solving, curiosity, and persistence.
- Support the development of healthy social emotional development
- Complete screening and on-going assessment for each child, prepare and implement individual development plans for each child and document progress in the data tracking system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Teacher A
- 90-hour childcare certificate and one year of experience w/ infants, toddlers, or preschool children. Teachers in an infant room must also have completed 45 clock hours of infant/toddler coursework.
- 60 hours of infant/toddler specific coursework can be substituted for the 90-hour childcare certificate + 45 hours of infant/toddler coursework.
- One year of college can be substituted for experience or a combination of experience and college.
- Must also have 9 clock hours of approved training in communication or completed one college course for credit. Must have or be able to apply for a Child Development Certificate (CDA) within one year of hire.
- AA in Early Childhood Education; or an AA in a related field and a 90-hour childcare certificate, and experience teaching infants/toddlers or preschool-age children.
- If degree is not in ECE, must be able to apply for a Child Development Certificate (CDA) within one year of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
- or a BA in related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children.
- or a Bachelor’s degree and has been admitted into the Teach For America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach For America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach For America’s professional staff; and a 90 hour child care certificate, or a Child Development Certificate (CDA).
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE); or a MA in related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children.
- Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
- All levels of teachers must have the ability to: direct the work of others; facilitate meetings; must be willing and able to accompany the children on field trips and to actively participate with them in other activities.
- The position requires extended periods of standing and frequent reaching, bending, lifting, walking, stooping, sitting, including sitting on the floor, and the ability to move freely throughout the building including climbing stairs in those buildings where there isn’t an elevator.
- Must have the ability to respond to a child in distress and have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly.
