The Distance Education Program Consultant in the College of Arts and Sciences is responsible for program administration, relationship management, and project tracking and management for the College of Arts and Science’s portfolio of online learning. This support is provided through various tactics including leading and implementing complex enterprise initiatives that may set precedent, conveying sometimes difficult and/or complex information to stakeholders, persuading stakeholders to consider alternative options, and developing new practices and processes. This position advises and guides colleagues in the department and college by using their knowledge and experience in digital learning to support the growth of the online and continuing education programs. This position reports to the Director of Distance Education and collaborates closely with colleagues within the Office of Distance Education, and works independently across many other units within the College of Arts and Sciences, regional campus deans, Big Ten colleagues, and other college and university teams, especially OTDI and Ohio State Online, to advance projects and strategic goals for online learning in both for-credit and non-credit learning spaces.

The Distance Education Program Consultant serves as strategy consultant to the Director for managing the College's online program portfolio, including recognizing growth opportunities and limitations, financial modelling and projections, evolving federal and state accreditation policies, and State Authorization considerations. This position participates in cross-functional team meetings with Ohio State Online team providing the College’s strategic perspective on management of online programs. This position leads the implementation of assigned initiatives led by ODE (may include management of people tasked with implementation). The Distance Education Program Consultant tracks curricular growth and policy changes to identify opportunities and upcoming adjustments for ODE new and existing programs. The Consultant creates reports to share the story of ODE's activities to broad audiences, targeting their specific interests. The Consultant utilizes exceptional communication skills, including the ability to persuade and communicate difficult and sometimes complex information to various stakeholders.

The Distance Education Program Consultant implements strategic plans undertaken by the Office of Distance Education in Arts and Sciences; manages files and records related to ongoing and proposed projects; creates and organizes reports and data queries including periodic curricular survey of potential and existing ASC programs. They research university and national accreditation policies and procedures and best practices in distance education, and they communicate these practices effectively and accurately to faculty and the College of Arts and Sciences curricular leadership team. Collects, organizes, and assesses data related to distance learning projects; creates resource guides, develops training materials, develops, best practices, identifies development areas; develops and leads support mechanisms (e.g. meetings, feedback sessions, surveys, digital communities, website, best practices blog/teams channel/social media) to build knowledge and obtain feedback on the direction of distance learning and technology-enabled teaching in the College.

The Distance Education Program Consultant works with The Director of Distance Education, the Ohio State Online office, and the College’s 38 departments and academic units College’s 38 departments and academic units, to help design, develop, support, and assess distance learning courses, certificates, and degree programs. They will provide support for ASCC, department chairs, chairs of unit curriculum committees, and faculty members on distance learning best practices, curricular requirements, and procedures by providing a thorough review of all proposed online courses in the college, communicating feedback to faculty, and provide guidance to the College Faculty Curriculum Committee relating to educational technologies and best practices in developing distance education courses. They will develop instructional support resources and programs and lead workshops to support distance learning and curricular development.

The Distance Education Program Consultant coordinates and develops collaborations with college units as well as other university offices to support the mission of developing distance learning within ASC, answers higher-order inquiries directed to the office or direct questions to the appropriate team member within the college, represents the college distance learning team at some college and university meetings, and engages in other support of projects and initiatives as assigned. The Distance Education Program Consultant manages cross-institutional collaborative programming, including the big Ten Academic Alliance and Ohio State Regional Campus Courseshare initiatives, as well as other strategic initiatives housed in ASC ODE in advancement of university and college strategic goals. They will supervise students and coordinate student work. Manages Graduate Student interns.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or combination of education and experience. Six years of relevant experience in curriculum development, teaching and learning, educational quality assurance, program management, online learning, or a related field. Must be proficient in Excel and data visualization. Must be knowledgeable about higher education accreditation standards and experienced in supporting the development of effective course and program designs through compliance with local policies as well as up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices. Must possess advanced project management and project tracking skills. This position requires working collaboratively and independently on multiple tasks with competing priorities with an exceptional degree of accountability and creative problem-solving as well as effective professional communication and people skills.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree. Fluency with Ohio State support units and operational/administrative systems, particularly within the College of Arts and Sciences processes related to curriculum and assessment. Experience with project management and project management software (Airtable). Experience with Tableau and data storytelling strategies.

The pay range for this job profile is $64,300-84,550. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.

This is a hybrid position, and is expected to work at least 50% in-office.
