Seeking Accommodation Specialist for Access Services
Join our team at Tacoma Community College as an Accommodation Specialist in Access Services. Your role is crucial in providing support to students with disabilities and ensuring they receive necessary accommodations to thrive academically. Reporting to the Director of Access Services, you will collaborate with various campus offices and academic departments to facilitate a conducive learning environment for our diverse student population.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support and Accommodations
Serve as the main point of contact for students with disabilities, assessing their needs and facilitating appropriate accommodations.
Provide assistance with alternative testing accommodations and proctoring for Access Services students.
Offer coaching and support for students to enhance their independence, self-advocacy, and access to support services.
Maintain compliance with relevant laws, policies, and professional standards related to accommodations.
Recommend specialized accommodations, equipment, and support methods for students with specific needs.
Campus Collaboration and Training
Coordinate with student services offices and academic departments to ensure seamless support for students with disabilities.
Conduct disability awareness trainings for faculty, staff, and students across campus.
Develop intersectional services for specific student disability populations, fostering inclusivity and support.
Administrative and Operational Duties
Assist with budget activities, including monitoring accounts, ordering supplies, and coordinating allocations.
Manage the Access Services Disability Services database to streamline information management.
Supervise front office staff and assist with their training and development.
Represent the college at conferences and meetings to stay abreast of best practices and industry trends.
Qualifications
Experience in providing academic advising and accommodations for students with disabilities, or equivalent education/experience.
Strong communication skills and proficiency in database management and office software.
Knowledge of relevant laws such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality.
Aptitude in assisting with assistive technology and alternate media formats.

Terms Of Employment
Full-time position with an annual salary range of $67,000 - $72,000, increasing to $69,000 - $74,000 on July 1.
Monday to Friday work schedule with occasional evenings, nights, and weekend availability required.
International degrees must be verified for U.S. equivalency.
Employment contingent upon continued state support and compliance with non-discrimination policies.
