The Sr. Director / Director, Program Management is responsible for managing cross-functional drug development projects across all stages of development from nonclinical through clinical. Working with a multi-disciplinary Project Team, the incumbent will develop and manage the integrated project plan and track progress against milestones and goals. This individual, in concert with the Project Teams, will drive and oversee end-to-end program timelines, including strategic planning, project execution, and delivery within specified timelines, budgets, and quality standards while serving as the official source of Alto’s portfolio delivery and operations. The incumbent will work with other department colleagues and leadership to help build the project management function.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide cross-functional project management expertise to research and/or clinical development stage projects and serves as the sole source of portfolio management, including prioritizing projects based on strategic value, resource availability, market potential, and ensuring the project's status and future plans.


Works with Project Teams in the creation of the comprehensive research and development plans for their assigned projects and may be called on to analyze various development scenarios ("what if" scenario analyses) and their impacts on timelines, resources, and/or budgets.


Partners with all functional areas (translational research, CMC, nonclinical safety, regulatory affairs, clinical development, clinical operations, pharmacovigilance, and commercial) to build and maintain integrated project timelines, track progress, resolve conflicts, and communicate current project status.

Responsible for maintaining the official project timeline and keeping the project on-schedule.

Reports on potential issues and facilitates the resolution of problems; and/or, escalates to company leadership for resolution.

Plans, coordinates, and facilitates regular Project Team meetings and ad hoc meetings.

Prepares agendas with input from key functional area representatives.

Prepares comprehensive meeting minutes and action items.

Follows-up with team members on any outstanding action items.

Collaborates with Finance team to support budgeting and forecasting activities across departments.

Helps prepare PowerPoint slides for internal and external presentations.

Supports Business Development activities by preparing necessary supporting documents and presentations related to assigned projects.

Monitors risks and identifies issues that arise over program life cycle and takes measures to mitigate and correct them when they occur.

Manage program and oversee functional teams for optimal return on investment, and coordinate and delegate cross-project initiatives.

Identify key requirements for cross-functional teams and external vendors by defining program controls, processes, procedures, and reporting.

Develop and manage budget for projects and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives.

Work with project managers to identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the department.

Strong influencer to manage various teams with diverse array of talents, skills, and responsibilities without direct reporting relationships.

Mentorship and development of project management staff to build a high-performing team. Establish and maintain a project management office (PMO) framework that encompasses best practices, standards, and methodologies for project execution and reporting.

Build bridges to key stakeholders and leadership throughout the organization by providing regular updates to executive leadership and ensuring alignment across departments.


QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS in a field relevant to the drug development process with a preference for candidates with a experience in scientific field and certifications in project management methodologies (e.g. PMP)

Minimum of ten years of relevant work experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry; of which a minimum of five years working in a project management role, preferably working with multi-disciplinary drug development teams

Comprehensive understanding of the overall drug development process while having knowledge in using advanced project management tools and software

Team player with ability to motive cross-functional team members and has soft skills in strategic thinking and ability to influence without authority

Excellent ability to prioritize, drive projects forward and resolve conflicts

Willing to be accountable for team performance

Ability to interpret and synthesize competitive information from a variety of sources

Excellent project management skills and facility with project management software; as well as, the Microsoft Office software suite

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
