POSITION SUMMARY: MEDICAL SCIENCE DIRECTOR 

Are you passionate about using your content planning and development skills to educate the healthcare community on the most recent advances in medicine? Do you have experience developing (editing, writing, slide creation, question development, etc.) medical content? Do you enjoy learning about and working across diverse disease states? Medscape Medical Affairs is seeking a motivated, adaptable, team-oriented, experienced medical writer/content developer to support development of medical content for live, digital, and hybrid events. What You’ll Do 

  • Develop medical content for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers that is clinically appropriate, instructionally-sound, adherent to industry regulations, aligned to client goals, and completed within budget and time scale, and of the highest quality
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues; relevant literature; clinical practice guidelines; approved therapeutic drugs, regimens, and devices; and therapeutic pipelines for relevant disease states
  • Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge of specific disease states, as needed
  • Serve as a clinical consultant to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop ideas for proposals; and plan, develop content for, and implement live, digital, and hybrid projects
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with key opinion leaders and experts in relevant disease states
  • Identify, recommend, recruit and engage with qualified faculty for assigned projects to deliver current, accurate, and compelling content 
  • Use templates and tools to edit (clinical and line edit) content received from faculty/authors for clarity, medical/scientific accuracy, alignment with project goals, product specifications, and consistency with the target learner audience
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations for multimedia programs and figures for text programs
  • Perform fact-checking of own work and others’ work
  • Incorporate revisions based on input from cross-functional internal and external teams
  • Write assessment/survey/polling questions aligned with project goals
  • Identify opportunities to develop compelling insights analyses and/or presentations
  • Share/present insights analyses with internal and/or external stakeholders 
  • Provide recommendations for future programs and analyses based on gathered insights and clinical expertise

  • Someone who is comfortable in a highly deadline-driven environment, and able to pivot quickly between tasks and adapt to rapidly shifting priorities

  • High professionalism and easy rapport in building collaborative work relationships with both internal and external stake holders
  • Possessing strong problem-solving skills to independently and quickly deal with unforeseen issues to ensure that timelines are consistently met
  • Willingness to travel; estimated up to 30% for training opportunities and project assignments

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a medical writer and/or content developer/editor for a medical education/communications company
    Advanced degree in a medical or science-related specialty (MD, PharmD, RN, NP, PA, PhD) preferred; a Bachelor of Science degree (life sciences, public health, or clinical sciences) with several years’ relevant work experience required
  • Highly skilled in interpreting complex scientific data and results to develop compelling clinical narratives (slides or text) that integrate data and visuals for the target audience 
  • Excellent editorial (editing and writing) skills, preferably in online publishing and text manuscript development; familiarity with AMA style
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (English; additional languages a plus)
  • Excellent computer skills that include working remotely on shared networks and cloud-based systems, and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required; and web-based data and document sharing sites and authoring tools (Box, Read Cube, SharePoint, EndNote, Tableau) a plus
  • Experience with web-based project management tools (such as Workfront, MS Project) a plus 
Annual Salary of $125,000 plus bonus.
