Director of Marketing

The Director of Marketing is a dynamic leadership position that will provide strategic direction and management oversight of the marketing division at Long Island University. This position has close working relationships with Communications and Admissions. The Director of Marketing has the responsibility for the general marketing and branding of the university. A prime responsibility is marketing to enhance enrollment outcomes. This position develops creative strategies and identifies concepts for a wide variety of media to promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of the University.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a strategic marketing plan that supports enrollment, branding and University initiatives; enhances the image and reputation of LIU and executes mission-critical university events and programs against the goals of the organization.
  • Leads a creative team in the execution of the plan which will grow enrollment as well as address other institutional needs.
  • Oversees marketing initiatives, including public relations, web, advertising, marketing, photography and video services.
  • Identifies and builds relationships with a wide range of key constituencies.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership in the areas of admissions, enrollment services, fundraising and student success to accomplish campus goals and mission.
  • Prepare status reports and written materials, providing historical and forecasting information, with recommendations beyond execution and implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the marketing and/or communications field. Higher education experience preferred.

  • Strategic thinker who excels at generating and executing original ideas and opportunities for the University to raise its profile regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • The ability to make decisions quickly resulting in favorable outcomes.
  • Track record of successful experience working with complex and diverse organizations and working in a fast-paced environment of development and change is essential.
  • Solid experience in corporate or not-for-profit communications.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously with changing priorities.
  • Excellent prioritization, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, professionalism under pressure and self-directed approach.
  • Ability to function independently as well as to cultivate and maintain mutually respectful, productive working relationships among members of the University community (internal and external).
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop, manage and support a creative team that produces targeted results.
  • Superb writing and editing competency.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and public speaking skills.
