POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Financial Aid manages the daily operations of a fast-paced Financial Aid Office. This position is responsible for the successful administration of the University financial aid program in accordance and compliance with all federal, state and institutional regulations and policies. Reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer over $57 million annually in federal, state and institutional financial aid for undergraduate and graduate students at an institution with 2,200 students.
  • Develop and implement University financial aid strategy, policies and procedures to enroll, retain and graduate students.
  • Ensure the awarding of institutional financial aid is within budget.
  • Be current on knowledge of federal and state regulations and policies and best practices pertaining to the accurate and compliant administration of student financial aid. Be active in professional organizations as needed.
  • Oversees and supervises unit staff and provides training and technical guidance.
  • Direct and coordinate accurate and timely delivery of student financial aid. Recruit and evaluate as needed.
  • Counsel students and families through the financial aid application and awarding process.
  • Ensure department provides excellent customer service to students and all constituents.
  • Communicate accurately, effectively, timely and professionally with internal and external constituents including students and families, government agencies and University employees.
  • Collaborate with various University offices including Admissions, Accounting, Advancement and Registrar on effective and efficient workflow processes and deadlines.
  • Contribute to ensuring the University has successful audits.
  • Create and generate reports for department workflow, reporting as needed by administration, and for completion of mandated surveys.
  • Identify risks to the organization and discuss risk reduction options with VPEM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Eight or more years of progressive experience in financial aid. Previous management experience required.
  • Preference given to candidates with CSAC/Cal Grant experience.
  • Successful proven leadership experience. A personal record of leadership and service that shows integrity, accountability and ability to achieve goals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of constituents.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines, timelines and objectives.
  • A commitment to quality service to students and parents, and campus constituents.
  • Experience coaching staff on how to meet with students and parents to discuss both the value proposition and the basic principles of financial aid.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague, Business Objects, WebGrants, COD, NSLDS, CPS, and ELM preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of principles and philosophies of Vanguard University.

SALARY:

Full-time position.

$101,400 to $123,200(Annual)

Placement within the salary range is commensurate upon education and experience. Posted salary range reflects anticipated hiring scale for the position. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package.
