Scope of Position

We are seeking a Contracts Director for our Business Unit. This position involves overseeing the Contracts function and providing high-level guidance and hands-on coaching to Contracts professionals. The role is integral to the senior business management team, handling complex contractual arrangements of strategic importance and influencing contract formation, negotiation, and administration policies and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Policies and Processes:
  • Establish and update contract policies and processes to meet corporate expectations.
  • Ensure compliance and effectiveness of contract management practices.
  • Business Development:
  • Participate in developing business alliances, acquisitions, divestitures, and risk management strategies.
  • Team Development:
  • Influence career development and provide training opportunities for contract professionals.
  • Offer guidance and leadership to cross-functional business team members.
  • Negotiations:
  • Occasionally lead complex negotiations and resolve contractual issues.
  • Financial Acumen:
  • Understand the business case, with an appreciation for financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications.
  • Strategic and Tactical Roles:
  • Balance high-level strategic coaching with occasional front-line contract management as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of related experience.
  • Excellent presentation, team-building, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effect and manage change.
  • Motivational and visionary leadership skills with the ability to develop emerging leadership talent.
  • Experienced in the entire lifecycle of prime and subcontract contracting, from proposal phase to contract closeout.
  • Well-versed in various contract types including:
  • Commercial, DOD Cost type, Firm Fixed Price, T&M, and Services Contracts.
  • Fluent with FAR and DFAR.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing and developing contracting professionals, preferably with experience managing other contract managers.
  • Experienced in non-DOD commercial contracting, including risk management.
  • Excellent writing skills with a clear understanding of contract formation principles.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience with NAVSEA, MSC, and MARAD ship repair business is a plus.
