Job Description: Director of Communications and Marketing


Autonomous vehicles will transform transportation and address roadway fatalities, increase accessibility, and ease supply chain challenges. The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association (AVIA)—the unified voice of the AV industry—is seeking a motivated, creative, and entrepreneurial professional to lead its communications and marketing efforts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 


  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans to effectively convey the association's mission, initiatives, and key messages to diverse audiences, including industry stakeholders, policymakers, media, and the public.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists and enhance the association's reputation as a thought leader in the autonomous vehicle industry and among policymakers.
  • Oversee the creation of compelling and informative content, including press releases, blog posts, and annual State of AV report to support communication and marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns across various platforms, including social media, email, and the association website to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Plan and coordinate industry events and webinars to showcase the association’s initiatives and priorities.
  • Provide communications support to government affairs team during advocacy activities.
  • Occasional travel may be required for this position. 
  • This position is remote work eligible.
  • Position reports to the Association’s Chief Executive Officer.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: 


  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 7 years relevant experience required; experience with trade associations and policy communications is helpful.  
  • Strong interest in autonomous vehicles, transportation, and technology policy.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication and marketing strategies.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small and mission driven team.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage member, consultant, and vendor relationships.
