Job Summary: The Director of Internal Communications will be Houston based and work a hybrid office schedule. This position oversees all internal communications, including companywide announcements, newsletters, the intranet and other communications. This position is responsible for creating compelling content that informs, inspires and empowers associates, driving alignment with and engagement in our business. The Director develops and leads large-scale projects, creates communications plans and strategies, writes executive communications and produces content for a variety of internal communications channels.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee the internal communications ecosystem and content, including companywide announcements, newsletters, the intranet and other mass communications.
  • Create compelling content that informs, inspires and empowers associates.
  • Lead effort to implement new internal communications strategies and/or tactics, which may include creating and launching new communications vehicles, reimagining content and streamlining processes.
  • Drive employee alignment and engagement in our business by providing a consistent narrative around our company’s Purpose, Vision, Values and initiatives that are important to the business.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to executives and key internal stakeholders, serving as a thought partner in creating clear, compelling narratives.
  • Lead the communications strategy for the annual employee engagement survey and pulse survey, in partnership with HR.
  • Own the relationship with our intranet vendor, ensuring effectiveness of the intranet, which is the one-stop-shop for Company news and information.
  • Manage monthly editorial meetings with leaders across the organization to discuss communication needs and objectives.
  • Partner with VP of Communications on key internal events like All-Hands meetings, conferences and events as well as executive communications, such as podcasts, videos, employee emails and meetings.
  • Own a forward-looking internal communications content calendar.
  • Maintain a unique Mattress Firm voice that’s consistent across all platforms and channels.
  • Drive a strong focus on measuring the impact and effectiveness of internal communications efforts and fine-tuning messaging to maximize impact.
  • Manage a team, providing feedback, coaching, motivation and development opportunities.
  • Complete all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date.
  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all.
  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external contacts.
  • Follow all Company policies and execute Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and company operations.
  • Execute team member performance improvement plans, progressively discipline and terminations when appropriate per Company policy.

  • Execute Company initiatives and other activities requested by supervisor.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required

Professional Experience

  • 10+ years relevant professional experience in internal and/or corporate communications preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading an internal communications team.
  • Experience planning and executing all aspects of an All-Hands/Town Hall meeting and internal events.
  • Experience working with and writing for senior leaders.
  • Experience managing content for a company intranet.

Pay Range

$160,000 - $165,000
