Main Job Responsibilities / Competencies
The Director, Global Strategic Marketing is responsible for bringing customer-centric thinking into the new product development process and ensuring that new products meet or solve clinical needs and represent a meaningful business opportunity. In this role, the Director, Global Strategic Marketing will monitor, assess, and refine the new product portfolio and strategic planning to ensure the needs of the market are aligned with the company’s strategic goals and objectives. The Director, Global Strategic Marketing will also perform internal and external customer market research to drive the development and expansion of the product strategic plans including discovery of unmet customer needs, refinement of product features and benefits, and gain insight into market dynamics.
The Director, Global Strategic Marketing leads the coordination and management of all aspects of the implementation of new products including planning, organizing, leading, and managing product launch programs, activities, and implementation. The Director, Global Strategic Marketing must be an exceptional business partner with an unparalleled ability to work collaboratively and cross functionally with key internal stakeholders such as the Commercial Sales Leaders, Regional Sales Directors, Territory Managers, Regulatory and R&D leaders. Furthermore, the successful Director, Global Strategic Marketing will have the ability to function at a broad-based, strategic level while being capable of driving detailed, tactical execution.

Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Vice President, Global Strategic Marketing, this role functions with a high amount of collaboration with cross-functional teams, with the potential of managing 2 to 3 product marketing personnel.
- Owns pipeline and portfolio strategy including new product index, new product development, claims/messaging delivery, product, and operational readiness stages of launch strategy for the platforms.
- Deliver innovation roadmaps and pipelines for the platforms. Deliver market analysis and strategy around product launch and re-launch across key markets.
- Ability to establish and execute product strategic direction and define requirements.
- Develop business cases and make recommendations to executive management on the most promising opportunities.
- Work with regions to develop concepts for new product positioning and sets strategic pricing, positioning in partnership with Commercial Leaders.
- Provide guidelines for demand forecasts and assumptions to drive regional business cases. Complete long-range planning processes, including long-range forecasting and strategic product planning.
- Deliver key assets and claims to support launch (product readiness) to Commercial teams.
- Owns post-launch results tracking and continuous improvement. Advocate and voice for customer (Physicians, Technicians, and Distributors) and internal stakeholders.
- Interface with Senior Leaders in R&D, Commercial Leaders, Regulatory Affairs and Quality leaders.
- Communicate features, benefits and functional requirements of new products and other customer solutions to Product Marketing group.
- Effectively identify and collaborate with market research organizations and consultants, as needed.
- Work closely with practices, KOLs, and field teams/distributors to identify unmet product and customer needs.
- Analyze competitive products and incorporate competitive strategies into new product development planning.
- Develop financial models for new product projects (ROI) to guide trade-off decision making.
- In partnership with R&D develop and execute pipeline of products/solutions to solve unmet user needs and improve business performance.
- In conjunction with Product Marketing, develop naming/branding strategy for new products.
- Development of key business partnerships across the industry to further STAAR Surgical’s priorities and growth across the ophthalmic space.
- Collaborate with Technical Writer to develop and design Instructions for Use (IFU) or Operators Manual.
- Develop User Preference Evaluation (UPE) plans, execute, assess, and summarize results.
- Forecast and execute new customer access product launches.
- Up to 30% domestic and international travel required.
- Position located in Lake Forest, CA.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience. Advanced degree in a related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 8-10 years of marketing and business experience is required.
- Global brand management experience preferred with a proven record of strategic leadership including integrated communications/advertising delivery, new product launches, business plan development, and/or classical strategy/business/marketing training.
- Global product management (or equivalent) experience, preferred.
- Prior experience working with market research, advertising agencies and agency management is preferred.
- A demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional and senior management to impact decision-making is required as well as a demonstrated record identifying winning consumer insights, growth opportunities, and priorities.
- Prior experience leading teams is required.
- Prior experience working with Legal, Regulatory and Global partners is preferred. Ability to think strategically, query and analyze data, and make data-driven decisions.
- Experience in the medical device industry, particularly Ophthalmology preferred.
- Desire to build positive culture and relationships in the organization.
- Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with highly technical teams and understanding of software concepts.
- Strong proficiency in financial/spreadsheet analysis.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical, commercial and customer groups.
- Ability to work in a complex, rapidly changing environment.
