Job Title: Development and Fundraising Officer- Institutional Giving

Location: New York City, USA

Reports To: Development and Fundraising Manager, Malteser International Americas

Position Type: Full-time, Hybrid (Based at NYC HQ)

Summary:

Development and Fundraising Officer- Institutional Giving, is a member of the Development Team reporting to the Development and Fundraising Manager. The Officer plays a key role in the Department’s fundraising goals by working to expand our institutional giving portfolio focusing on large foundations, family foundations, and corporations. Under the supervision of the Development Manager the individual selected is responsible for identifying and applying for private funding opportunities that meet Malteser International Americas’ (MI AM) needs, executing the full grant application process, and reporting.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Research and Prospecting: Conduct research to identify new funding opportunities from institutional donors, including monitoring donor priorities, funding trends, and upcoming funding opportunities.
  • Proposal Development: Lead the development of high-quality grant proposals, concept notes, and funding applications in collaboration with the programs department ensuring alignment with donor priorities and guidelines and MIAM needs.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate closely with program staff, finance team, communications, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between donor requirements, programmatic activities, consistent messaging, and budgetary needs.
  • Donor Relationship: Assist the Development and Fundraising Manager in cultivating and maintaining relationships with institutional donors, including large foundations, family foundations, and corporations, to secure funding for Malteser International Americas' programs, initiatives, and general operations.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Stay informed about best practices, trends, and developments in institutional fundraising, sharing knowledge and insights with colleagues to strengthen organizational capacity.
  • Other Responsibilities: Assists the Development and Fundraising Manager in creating content for campaigns and annual reports, and organizing events and other tasks as required.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, development studies, nonprofit management).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in institutional fundraising, grant writing, prospecting, and donor relationship management, preferably within the international development or humanitarian sector.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing grants from institutional donors, including foundations, family foundations, and corporations.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to develop compelling grant proposals, funding applications, concept notes, and letters of intent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships and negotiate effectively with donors and partners.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database management systems (preferably Bloomerang).
