We’re looking for an enthusiastic, organized and creative Deputy Editor to work closely with our team of in-house writers and editors to deliver best-in-class, reader-focused Home & Appliance content across multiple platforms. As an Editor on the Home team, you'll report to our Director, Content Development and oversee a team of writers/reporters focused on generating content that is smart, relevant, and cutting-edge.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers, NY location. This position is not eligible for Sponsorship (TN, L1, etc. )

How You'll Make an Impact:

From choosing the best battery lawnmower to how to get PFAs out of your tap water , consumers rely on CR to help them make informed choices. Through in-depth reporting as well as close collaboration with engineers in our labs, the journalists on CR’s Home team inform readers about how to get the most out of the products they buy, keep their family safe, and spend their money wisely.

On a regular basis, you will:

  • Assign, edit, and produce content for digital and print platforms.
  • Work with video and social teams to produce engaging content.
  • Manage and mentor staff writers, while also overseeing delivery of timely, accurate content.
  • Partner with other teams across our organization (test engineers and market analysts, as well as members of our survey, advocacy, statistics, communications, design, and other teams) to make on-strategy, data-driven content decisions.
  • Act as an in-house home spokesperson or representative for external media requests, as well as on-camera subject matter expert for CR video platforms.
  • Move content through the production process.
  • Pursue in-depth reporting and writing projects, as necessary.

About You

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • You have impressive journalism skills and experience. You have at least five years of editing experience in a senior editorial role within an advocacy organization or media outlet.
  • You’ve earned a related degree . Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • You’ve managed others . Your experience includes managing and mentoring a team of on-staff writers.
  • You are deadline driven. You thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • You take a reader-first approach. You can convert technical insights and data into informative, well-written, easy-to-understand content.
  • You're a self-starter. You can work independently as well as collaboratively across multiple platforms and with other writers, editors, and members from a variety of departments .

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $140k to $150k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
