The Database Administrator is responsible for the administration and maintenance of company proprietary and third-party relational database systems. They will serve as an administrator responsible for database architectural design on new systems, monitoring database performance, troubleshooting problems, and researching improvements to improve overall system performance. They will maintain the backup and recovery of company relational database systems.

Additionally, they create and maintain database related components in support of application teams such as: Warehouse, Finance, Application Development and Mainframe. They will also establish and maintain the security levels for individuals and groups within the company SQL Server, cloud and DB2 database installations.

This position will be with National Indemnity Company in Omaha, NE. This position is Hybrid eligible with 50% in the office required. This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship.

What will you do?

  • Acts as system administrator for the relational database systems utilized by company proprietary systems and third-party systems.
  • Monitors database performance of various company and third- party proprietary systems in order to determine performance levels.
  • Implements and maintains proper security levels for Company database servers, instances and cloud-based database resources according to company security policies.
  • Acts as database architect helping design, build, and implement new databases for company proprietary application development systems.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in database engineering, computer engineering, computer science, MIS or related field
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience
  • Database administration and/or engineering
  • Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with cloud based database technologies

Who would excel in this role?

  • Experience with ITIL or similar methodologies
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience with DB2 administration
  • Experience with Cosmos DB, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
  • Programming experience with languages such as Microsoft Visual Basic or C#
