Minimum Qualifications
Curatorial Assistants must be interested in the visual arts, have at least two years’ experience working in art galleries, museums, or other exhibition spaces or related experience. Curatorial Assistants must demonstrate professionalism and excellent people skills as well as the ability to handle multiple projects as they will be working with various staff members. Curatorial Assistants must be creative, artistic, highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and good problem solvers. The ideal applicant will thrive in a fast-paced working environment working as part of an extended curatorial team.

Essential Job Functions
Curatorial Assistants report directly to the Senior Curator at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, part of the Office of Arts Engagement and Cultural Resources. This position will have the opportunity to work closely with other Turchin Center staff, specifically working with the Lead Preparator and the Collections Manager, both part of the Curator led Exhibitions Team; they will also have the opportunity to work in conjunction with staff in Arts Education and Outreach.
The Curatorial Assistant will be part of an exhibitions team supporting a variety of professional duties and tasks related to day-to-day administrative and research tasks, working with the curator and finance staff to complete university contracts for visiting artists, working directly with exhibiting artists, the installation of exhibitions ranging from large outdoor sculpture to artworks in a variety of gallery settings including the preparation and painting of indoor spaces; assisting with art handling, packing, and deliveries and the transportation of collections and exhibits both on- and off-campus, tours; additionally work includes assisting with the permanent collection and the collections database as necessary; as well as keep the exhibition archives updated, photography skills would be a plus as there are opportunities to document installations and artwork in the permanent collection as well as preparing files for various print and digital platforms – all in a team environment in a student-centered university visual arts setting.
Curatorial Assistants are vital members of the Turchin Center’s exhibition’s team attending all team meetings. The Curatorial Assistants also participate in larger staff meetings, planning sessions, and staff retreats as necessary. This position will be required to assist with additional projects as needed and is expected to work special events throughout the year during receptions and other programming alongside other staff members in support of the exhibitions and related public programming hosted by the Turchin Center.
Preferred Qualifications
Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00, for 30-40 hours, depending on exhibition schedule. Exact schedule to be worked out with supervisor. Occasional evening hours during exhibition openings and ArtTalks preferred.

Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds, and work comfortably at heights up to 40 feet, with or without reasonable accommodations
Hiring Range $16-$18 per hour

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, studio art, industrial or graphic design, or related field, master’s preferred.
- Two years working in art galleries, museums, other exhibition spaces or related experience,
- Experience working with living artists,
- Demonstrated art historical and curatorial research skills,
- Strong administrative skills taking direction and working independently,
- Professional art handling experience,
- Digital photographic experience preferred,
- Computer skills, specifically working with Microsoft and Adobe Suite software including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and related Acrobat programs; working in Canva or similar programs is a plus as is experience formatting documents for professional printing,
- Familiarity with collections management databases,
- The ability to stay on task whether working independently or with a group,
- The ability to work with a team and to work special events in the evenings and on weekends,
- The skills necessary to maintain a clean and neat workspace including the professional use and care of a variety of basic hand and power tools.
