POSITION PURPOSE: The Cost Estimator will collect and analyze data to assess the time, money, material, and labor required to manufacture a part, product, or service. They help with bids for new customers, and support buying activities. Cost estimators collaborate with engineers, our quoting team, and the commercial team and are a key team member in driving the business forward. * -- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Identify factors affecting costs, such as production time, material, and labor to create cost estimates for new or existing projects consistent with customer specifications and company cost objectives.
  • Ensures accuracy of all engineering documentation and its proper transmittal both internally and externally.
  • Quote manufacturing cost estimates based on customer specifications and requirements.
  • Participate in the development and/or simplification of processes and procedures and other process improvement activities.
  • Identify internal and external manufacturing processes to create a quality product that is cost competitive.
  • Recommend procedures, equipment, and process changes to facilitate and attain quality control standards.
  • Work with customers and the sales team to provide value engineering support to potential projects.
  • Create and maintain customer requirement matrix to ensure compliance and identify potential new vendors for customer projects as needed.
  • Identify and understand customer quality requirements for quoted projects.
  • Write or assist in writing process sheets and apply or assist in applying time standards to orders prior to release to manufacturing.
  • Assist other departments on matters pertaining to the development of processes to ensure all pertinent facts are fully and properly considered and assist in solving or responding to quality related problems.
  • Keep current and informed of new and/or improved mechanical engineering technology as a basis for influencing, in a positive way, the direction of future project development and/or application.
  • Develop, maintain, and portray a high degree of professionalism and technical competence both within and outside the organization, encouraging excellence through example.
  • Performs related work as apparent, directed, or assigned. * -- QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Required Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of shop math through trigonometry. Knowledge of machining processes, tool and fixture design, time standards, and machine center capabilities. Engineering principles, tools, and concepts. Project management principles (i.e., Work Breakdown Structure, Gantt charting, critical path management, etc.) Required Experience: Preferred at least 10 years of progressive CNC milling and CNC turning experience in a precision machining job shop environment. Some CAD/CAM software experience a plus (i.e., Gibbs CAM, SolidWorks, Mastercam, etc.). Proficient with Microsoft software ERP system. Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated examples of initiative and aggressiveness in completing programs; including leading small cross-functional projects that span multiple MultiSource sites. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with a wide variety of manufacturing personnel and others at all levels. Language Ability: Ability to read, write and verbally communicate English.
