Job Title: Corporate Occupation Health and Safety Manager (Civil Engineering Firm)

Location: Corporate/ Las Vegas, NV

SUMMARY:

Lead GeoTek staff in a top-tier safety culture and manage Health and Safety (H&S) practices. The H&S Manager will implement, administer, develop, and improve H&S programs, assist management in injury and illness prevention, and ensure operations are following local, state and federal environmental and safety regulations. By applying past experience, performance will be monitored through effective reduction in Experience Modifications Rates, Progressive workers Compensation / Occupation injury claim management and Occupational injury filing reduction. The position requires a focus on the creation and implementation of safety plans/procedures with short-term to mid-term impacts that align with organizational goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Operate in a safety sensitive position (Construction sites), around heavy machinery without supervision.
  • Ability to create, update and maintain Job Hazard Analysis for various construction field and laboratory tasks.
  • Ability to update, maintain and implement a Safety Program across 5 states, 7 offices with ~350 employees.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution to develop and implement (after approval) internal safety rules, policies and guidelines; prepares manuals, training outlines and employee instructions.
  • Monitor effectiveness of safety performance improvement efforts, with emphasis on both leading and trailing indicators.
  • Experience managing occupation related injuries, including first aid triage and claim management.
  • Initiates and conducts thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Maintain continuous communication with existing Safety Committee members and upper management on progress of safety program and practices.
  • Responsible for oversight of employee safety training programs; conducts or provides for the conduct of employee training, including classroom lectures, demonstrations, hands-on instruction, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety-related regulatory requirements, Federal, State, and Local regulations, and OSHA standards.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies, training, and goals focused on the prevention of incidents.
  • Conduct random construction field safety audits of company personnel for safety and PPE compliance.
  • Conduct bi-annual Office Safety audits (Eye wash stations, housekeeping, first aid kits, LOTO authorized personal certification, etc.)
  • Update and maintain Lock Out/ Tag out Programs for various locations.
  • Review SDS Binders for accuracy.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 10 general industry, OSHA 10 Construction, MSHA and first Aid/ CPR Certifications.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive written reports and correspondences, represent ideas clearly and concisely, and make presentations.
  • The ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Commute to and from job sites, other offices ( Out of State) as needed.
  • Navigate uneven terrain of constructions sites, including entering and exiting trenches with the use of a ladder.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE

  • BCSP Certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Safety Management Specialist (SMS)
  • CPR/ First Aid certified.
  • OSHA 30 Construction Industry
  • Must have 3+ years construction experience.
  • HAZWOPER 40
  • OSHA 500 Preferred, but not required.
  • Portable nuclear gauge safety training (not required for hire, but will be required during employment)
  • Radiation Safety Officer training (not required for hire, but will be required during employment)


License: Valid/current state driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Perform general physical activities including talking, hearing, and seeing to safely communicate and navigate sensitive work environments . Driving, performing physical activity that requires moving one's whole body such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, feeling, reaching, lifting, grasping, twisting above the waist, bending at waist, repetitive hand and arm motion. Climb ladders, exertion of force, manipulation of hand and/or foot controls. Requires considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials. Must be able to consistently lift and/ or manipulate 25-75 pounds of material/equipment as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position will be split between office environment that is temperature controlled and field construction sites in inclement weather. Must be able to accomplish tasks under adverse weather and/or site conditions. Some tasks may require working in confined space or climbing and working at above average heights. Ability to work independently with no direct or little supervision on construction sites.
