Cornerstone Security Personnel

PROGRAM DESIGN: Roads to Success (RTS) facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Security Personnel will be responsible to provide building security in the building, outside, or around the building and in the programs as necessary. Cornerstone Security personnel ensure the safety and security of the community center by welcoming visitors, managing access, addressing safety concerns, handling conflicts, responding to emergencies, and supporting overall program operations.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

Supervisor: Cornerstone Center Director

Hours: Fulltime – 35hrs/week

Compensation: $22 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greet visitors warmly and professionally upon entering, address their inquiries and directs people to appropriate locations.
  • Maintains daily program attendance logs and all related administrative tasks as required.
  • Knowledgeable of DYCD and DOH requirements.
  • Documents the use and the conditions of each room used by the program.
  • Logs medical or safety related incidents.
  • Responds to all emergencies (i.e. medical, unsafe areas, trespassing, altercations, etc)
  • Intervene, mediate, and actively work to de-escalate potential conflicts on site.
  • Controls the flow of traffic so that only those participants registered are allowed in the building or in appropriate program areas.
  • Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, program participants, families, community members and program staff.
  • Keeps the lobby clear of unauthorized persons, including loitering children, adults, or adolescents.
  • Conduct periodic sweeps of the building.
  • Keeps abreast of what is going on in the program each day.
  • Manage registration forms and process identification cards for program participants (as needed).
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior security experience is required.
  • Familiarity with the Boston Secor Community, NYCHA housing developments, DOE and youth programming, DOH/OCFS/ FDNY compliance, and DYCD programming is preferred.
  • Experience with effective management of crisis intervention, handling mental health and medical emergencies, and working with people with histories of trauma is a plus.
  • CPR/First aid certification is preferred.
  • Must successfully complete NYC DOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Register Clearance
  • Must be punctual and reliable; Must be available to maintain a full-time work schedule, within the operating hours of the Cornerstone program, including weekend and evening coverage as needed.

  • Strong time management skills: ability to handle assignments simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.
  • Previous experience working with diverse youth
  • The ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
  • Bilingual preferred.
