A prominent sewer and water line repair services company in the greater Denver area is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and diligent Controller to join its dynamic team. This key leadership position will oversee the financial and administrative management of our rapidly growing business, serving as the top accounting authority and reporting directly to the VP of Denver Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management: Oversee all financial functions including accounting, reporting, planning and analysis, budgeting, cash cycle, treasury, insurance, payroll, audit, tax, and compliance.
Administrative Oversight: Supervise human resources and information technology activities to ensure smooth operational support.
Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly financial reports, year-over-year and budget comparisons, periodic reforecasting, and operational KPI analysis. Craft finance content for monthly board presentations.
External Relations: Manage relationships with external financial advisors, benefits providers, tax consultants, and other administrative partners.
Accounts Management: Optimize Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes to enhance cash flow and efficiency.
Profitability Analysis: Conduct detailed profitability analyses by job, customer, and sales channel to guide strategic business decisions.
Pricing Support: Provide financial insights and support for quotes and price management.
Team Leadership: Train and manage an accounting/office professional, fostering a hands-on, player-coach leadership style. Opportunities exist to expand the team as the business grows.
Annual Financial Review: Coordinate the annual financial review process with external accounting firms, with an anticipated upgrade to a full audit within the next 2-3 years.
Strategic Planning: Support the team in the annual strategic planning and budgeting process.
Qualifications:
Over 10 years of professional experience in financial management.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with CPA certification preferred but not required.
Previous experience in the plumbing, construction, or related industries is highly desirable.
In-depth technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of accounting practices, particularly in ensuring GAAP compliance.
Strong financial acumen and a solid grasp of key financial metrics, financial analysis, accurate forecasting, and budgeting.
Proficiency in Excel and other financial tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
