Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Lead, Digital Content Strategy and Delivery, the Content and Research Manager is a senior contributor to BenefitsCheckUp®, the National Council on Aging’s (NCOA) flagship tool connecting millions of older adults and people with disabilities to benefits programs that can help pay for health care, medicine, food, utilities, and more. This role partners with the Team Lead on content accuracy and usefulness for BenefitsCheckUp target audiences.

The Content and Research Manager is responsible for informing and executing the BenefitsCheckUp content maintenance calendar for programs, resources, and supporting details; scoping and implementing eligibility screenings; and adding programs that are valuable to the BenefitsCheckUp target audiences. Collaborating with the Team Lead for prioritization, scheduling, and capacity planning, the Content and Research Manager will work to maintain and expand the content. The Content and Research Manager will work to streamline content updates across systems and databases while meticulously planning and coordinating these updates with both internal and external resources.

Positions at this level require strong experience managing projects and deliverables across departments. Incumbents are required to make independent judgements within their scope of work and require minimal oversight. Incumbents generally have three or more years of experience in their discipline and a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, as well as substantive experience at this level. Graduate level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage BenefitsCheckUp content maintenance, revisions, and research, championing optimized changes that will increase usage, satisfaction, and effectiveness in meeting the site's performance goals.
  • Develop a strong understanding of benefits programs and resources currently in BenefitsCheckUp, while also collaborating with internal and external SMEs to refine and expand the programs and resources.
  • Contribute to the BenefitsCheckUp content strategy and roadmap.
  • Define and manage the BenefitsCheckUp content maintenance calendar to include programs, resources, lookup tables, forms, and eligibility rules.
  • Serve as the primary business owner for the homegrown rules engine tool (REBA) that powers BenefitsCheckUp.
  • Submit bugs and enhancement requests to be pulled into agile web development cycle.
  • Test content updates/additions as well as enhancements and bug fixes impacting content.
  • Serve as content SME for client implementations and partnership engagements, as needed.
  • Use Clear/Plain Language writing and follow NCOA and BenefitsCheckUp editorial and style guides.
  • Work with internal SMEs and external resources to define business logic for program eligibility rules and questions for eligibility screenings, support creation of screenings in REBA, and test screenings.
  • Alongside Team Lead, evaluate overall content effectiveness by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Foster collaboration with a variety of external partners, including national, state, and local organizations, as well as corporations and foundations. Actively seek widespread engagement of other organizations in program strategies and activities.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to research complex benefits assistance programs and resources on the internet.
  • Strong writing and copyediting skills for the web, preferably for older adults and low digital literacy audiences.
  • Experience managing Web content lifecycle using content management systems (e.g., Kentico Kontent.ai).
  • Advanced organizational skills with a keen attention to detail, including experience leveraging a project management platform (e.g. Wrike).
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, team collaboration software (e.g., Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Confluence, Jira) and project management tools (e.g., Wrike).
  • Familiarity with national, state, and local agencies/organizations and programs supporting older adults and public benefits a plus.
  • Familiarity with benefits assistance programs eligibility rules and/or rules engines a plus.
  • Demonstrated success with cross-functional teamwork in terms of collaboration, efficiency, morale, and work-product delivery.
  • Proven ability to be a proactive thinker who can handle multiple projects at once and successfully prioritize tasks and deliverables.
