The AES Hawaii Communications Lead manages the development, management, and activation of communications activities internally and externally for AES Hawaii; working closely and coordinating with the AES Hawaii team, as well as the AES Corporate and Clean Energy communications teams. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a fully integrated communications strategy, working closely with stakeholders and community relations, to protect and promote our projects and objectives in Hawaii.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for and support the creation and distribution of press releases, website content and social media posts, and other materials that promote our organization’s mission, vision and values. S/he must enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and changing environment, and be comfortable managing and working to tight deadlines while delivering exceptional communications results.
Responsibilities:
The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $95.000 and $119.000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers messaging internally and externally for AES Hawaii in full alignment with our Clean Energy and Corporate business strategies
- Leads the development and implementation of a communications strategy that protects and proactively positions AES Hawaii for further growth opportunities
- Develops and directs internal communications activities that inform, connect, and enhance the employee experience in Hawaii
- Creates and manages strategic local communications campaigns, including the development of key messaging, target audiences, tactics, and implementation
- Cultivates strong relationships with local stakeholders including local communities, key business interactions, and media
- Responds to media requests for information in close coordination with the AES Corporate and Clean Energy Communications Teams
- Identifies opportunities to build AES Hawaii’s reputation and supports proactive media outreach efforts
- Prepares and manages communications materials and channels (e-newsletter, key web pages, social media posts, press releases)
- Drafts, edits and proofreads press releases, statements, speeches, fact sheets and other materials that convey AES Hawaii’s messages and informs/educates our internal and external audiences
- Creates and manages social media accounts and content that engages our online followers and increases our visibility and reach
- Monitors press coverage and recommends opportunities for increased message reach
- Sets up and tracks media monitoring
- Stays ahead of emerging media trends and channels, and updates strategy accordingly
- Helps to facilitate two-way communication and feedback sharing between the global, regional, and local teams
- Engages with and ensures coordination with other Communications practice areas
- BA or BS with 5+ years of relevant experience in communications
- Business acumen with the ability to understand complex issues
- In-depth understanding of the company’s strategy and direction for the future in Hawaii
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively
- Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving, and organizational abilities, big picture thinker
- Strong project management, organizational, strategic planning, analytical, creative, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Pro at building effective relationships and influencing people
- Proven ability to be a leader and team player
