Communications Assistant
Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, the Communications Assistant supports the implementation of Her Justice’s communications strategy by providing administrative and creative support for organizational communications campaigns and projects. A successful Communications Assistant understands their role as an integral member of the Development and Communications Team, which is charged with advancing the mission of the organization by cultivating and stewarding new funding partnerships.

Help Execute Our Social Media Strategy By
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, the Communications Assistant supports the implementation of Her Justice’s communications strategy by providing administrative and creative support for organizational communications campaigns and projects. A successful Communications Assistant understands their role as an integral member of the Development and Communications Team, which is charged with advancing the mission of the organization by cultivating and stewarding new funding partnerships.
Responsibilities
GENERAL SUPPORT
- Create strong first drafts of communications for use on social media, e-blasts, our website, one-pagers, and more.
- This is 2-part: 1) creating compelling graphics and 2) drafting strong copy language, both of which reflect brand visuals/voice and drive audience action.
- Maintain shared Intranet and SharePoint folders with up-to-date resources.
- Provide creative and administrative support for development campaigns throughout the year, including Commitment to Justice Awards; Shift The Power Campaign; and our Annual Benefit.
- Support the AD, Comms in cross-departmental collaborations (for example, with the Policy Team and Client Intake Team).
- Research vendors, products, and services related to communications and events needs.
- Track decisions and discussions by taking team notes during meetings.
- Participate as an on-site staff member at events (up to 5 evenings per year).
- Provide additional team support duties as assigned.
Help Execute Our Social Media Strategy By
- Maintaining our social media calendar.
- Drafting social graphics and captions.
- Posting to social.
- Performing a quarterly social media audit.
- Collaborating with AD, Comms to manage daily interactions on social media, such as DMs and comments.
- Serve as a thought partner on how to evolve our social presence!
- Manage regular content updates to the Her Justice website (WordPress).
- Conduct a monthly website audit to ensure information is up-to-date and to assess improvements to website architecture/copy.
- Liaise with Cornershop, our website vendor, on website support as needed.
- Research prospective media contacts and maintain our media contact list.
- Draft outreach to media contacts.
- Proactive problem-solver. You look down the pipeline for ways to fully implement solutions across different aspects of your work so the ball keeps rolling without interruption. You use your resources to hunt down answers - or fill in the gaps! - and to propose solutions. And you take stock of what’s working, what’s not, and why - and use those observations to suggest improvements for our team’s work as we go along.
- Fantastic organizational skills. You can set up and maintain information in an intuitive way that others can easily follow along with. You’re a pro at prioritizing tasks and working on simultaneous projects.
- Sharp attention to detail. You have a memory for details and are a star at proofing documents against each other to implement copy and design changes.
- Strong design sensibilities. You understand how visual identity sets the tone for how audiences perceive an organization. You create graphics that feel professional and modern, reflecting Her Justice’s position as a premier pro bono provider and as a policy thought leader.
- Excellent and adaptive written communicator. You have an eye for consistent brand voice and can communicate about complex ideas in ways that are clear, concise, and compelling. You can create communications for a range of audiences from different backgrounds (donors; policymakers; Board Members; community partners; and Her Justice clients to name a few).
- Technologically minded. You pick up new software skills quickly and stay ahead of the curve on changes to platforms and what that means for our work.
- Associate's degree required; Bachelors preferred.
- 1-3 years of work experience required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (especially Outlook; Excel; Word; PowerPoint; and SharePoint), Canva, Wordpress, Raiser’s Edge NXT, and Adobe In-Design - or can demonstrate that you’ll jump in with your sleeves rolled up to master these programs.
- Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the issues our organization regularly communicates about.
- Hybrid with Wednesdays in office. Subject to change based on business needs.
- Some evening travel required for events as needed.
