The Clinical Education Specialist, North America (United States and Canada) is a critical, highly visible, collaborative role. The role requires in-depth knowledge and experience. Is considered the subject matter expert. Will operate as the lead on large scale projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously in collaboration with franchise and function leadership. The position, is responsible for collaborating, designing, and executing the procedural skills training sessions in conjunction with assigned franchise or geographic area’s Medical Education courses to support the safe & effective use of S+N technologies. This role will also collaborate internally with assigned franchise or geographic leadership to support the development and execution of regional fellowship programs and procedural skills training events for both S+N owned events and with aligned society partners as determined by the franchise/function leadership. Critical to success of this role is the leverage of innovative learning technologies to deliver interactive, engaging, and innovative programs and alignment with cross functional partners. You will effectively coordinate multiple events simultaneously, driving performance by applying expertise to improve performance and productivity. Work will occur independently with guidance required only for the most complex situations. Judgment is exercised using specialized depth and breadth of expertise. You will operate as the lead on assigned large scale projects and/or multiple projects.

What will you be doing?

Procedural Skills Training Leader:

  • Strategically aligns with the franchise partners to deliver best-in-class procedural skills training
  • Responsible for all aspects of cadaveric labs inclusive of design, procurement, preparation, and disposal
  • Facilitates assigned physician led education, support establishment and maintenance of HCP relationships
  • Responsible for coordinating surgeon skills training education programs, S+N events, societies, S+N Academy meetings. The events may be stand-alone or a part of a hybrid education event.
  • The CES will collaborate on elements to successfully deliver a best in class medical education program, inclusive of but not limited to; event planning and execution, site procurement, invoicing, internal ordering of equipment and ordering/stewarding of cadaveric tissue
  • Develop, foster, and maintain customer relationships with HCP’s and thought leaders
  • Implement process improvements and leverage expertise to consistently enhance performance and productivity
  • Develop internal and external networks, build connections with other teams and divisions, and coordinate cross-functional collaboration for you and your team
  • You will work with the global Medical Education and Content Development teams of assigned franchise to use best methods and tools (cadaveric, Sawbones, simulation, etc.) for delivery of skills training based on thorough needs assessment and close collaboration with cross-functional team members
  • Demonstrate an understanding of advanced arthroscopic and Orthopaedic techniques to serve as a resource for internal team training needs on procedures and associated anatomy
  • Work closely with cross GBU - Sales, Sales Training, Medical Education, Research and Development and Marketing to facilitate and conduct training on the safe and effective use of Smith and Nephew products
  • Provides input and recommendations on the effectiveness of S&N faculty and future faculty


Fellowship and Societies Collaboration:

  • Serve as dotted line member with Director, Fellowship Strategies and Fellowship team to deliver on annual education plan and strategy
  • As an element of annual strategy, collaborate with Medical Education and Fellowships to plan and execute regional fellowship education
  • Participates in annual fellowship transition process with Fellowship Medical Education team and field partners for transitioning fellows to practice
  • Provides input and recommendation on the effectiveness of S&N faculty and future faculty
  • Through alignment with Fellowship Director, submit and present third-party in-kind support grant requests for society events taking place at the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC)
  • Drive improvements in the delivery of our Medical Education programs


Global Policies and Procedures Management:

  • Ensure that all medical education activities follow Smith+Nephew global and local compliance policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • This role may provide input to the 3rd party and education grant requests and determining appropriate medical education involvement for events


What will you need to be successful?

  • Travel: +/- 50% travel
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MBA preferred
  • 5+ years’ work experience
  • Surgical and/or O.R. experience
  • Clinical background in orthopedic (trauma, total ankle, total shoulder) setting preferred
  • 5+ years medical device or Medical Education experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects while delivering on established timelines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
  • Experience operating as the lead on large scale projects and/or multiple projects
  • Communicates with medical professionals at a high level of understanding pertaining to the surgical methods being demonstrated in the lab
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication and business acumen in regard to the sales cycle and how the sales team operates

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD annually and the compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. You may also be entitled to receive bonus and benefits, which may include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k, tuition reimbursement, medical leave programs, and a variety of wellness offerings.
