San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a non-profit and community owned/operated hospital located in the beautiful San Juan River Valley in northwest New Mexico, is conducting a nationwide search for their next Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will lead overall business and support service operations for SJRMC and will be accountable for the growth, operations, and financial results of the organization. This executive will be an established leader who can create and maintain an environment where the mission, vision and values of the organization can be fulfilled by satisfied and enthusiastic ancillary professionals and support service professionals providing personalized, high quality, customer care and service. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will serve as a trusted thought partner to the CEO, enabling the COO to learn all aspects of the organization: its business, environment, and people, thereby positioning this leader as a potential successor to the CEO

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in healthcare related field or business
  • Experience with mid-sized rural healthcare market
  • Demonstrated effective competence with performance improvement concepts and systems, including Lean and Six Sigma, among others
  • Specialty certification or licensure in a healthcare related field
  • Demonstrated effective competence of organizational learning
  • Demonstrated effective competence with workforce development systems
  • Demonstrated effective competence with efficiency and benchmark processes
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Facility Planning and Design Concepts
  • Membership in pertinent professional organization(s)
  • Demonstrated effective competence in Healthcare Information Systems and databases


San Juan Regional Medical Center is a community owned and operated hospital located in the beautiful San Juan River Valley in northwest New Mexico. A non-profit hospital serving the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah, SJRMC has a rich heritage dating back to before New Mexico was a state. In 1910, two physicians, Dr. G.W. Sammons and Dr. A.M. Smith, saw a community need for quality healthcare close to home. They started an eight-bed hospital so patients would not have to travel the treacherous 50 miles to Durango, Colorado. Today, the focus on serving the community with quality healthcare services remains, although SJRMC has grown into a 198 bed, level III trauma center including state-of-the-art operating suites and 165 private patient rooms with fresh air balconies. As a?340B hospital, SJRMC is committed to good stewardship principles to enhance services and care for our patients.
