Chemistry Teacher
Notre Dame School is searching for a reliable and passionate chemistry teacher to join
our faculty. The chemistry teacher’s responsibilities include preparing lesson plans,
tests and assignments, and supervising students during investigations and experiments.
You should be able to teach students from different backgrounds, with varying
aptitudes and interests. To be successful as a chemistry teacher, you should be culturally sensitive,
well-organized, and demonstrate insatiable curiosity.
Chemistry Teacher Responsibilities
● Preparing and delivering engaging chemistry lessons to students from different
backgrounds, who all have different interests and abilities.
● Monitoring student performance, and adjusting teaching strategies and
techniques for improved content delivery.
● Establishing classroom and laboratory rules and ensuring all students
understand and accept them.
● Setting up exams, assessments, and experiments in accordance with curriculum
requirements and standards of the state and district.
● Communicating any student issues to parents, counselors, and other relevant
staff members.
● Attending school events and faculty meetings as required.
● Participate in weekly meetings with the school mentor and bi-monthly
department meetings.
● Building rapport with students so that they feel comfortable and safe discussing
topics in class.
● Encouraging students to participate in science enrichment programs.
● The Chemistry teacher also teaches a section of Biology to ninth grade and an Applied Chemistry course to twelfth grade.
Chemistry Teacher Requirements:
● Degree in Chemistry and/or Biology.
● Master’s degree preferable.
● Degree in secondary education with a focus on chemistry is also acceptable.
● A completed teaching apprenticeship is recommended.
● Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
● Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
● Patience, resilience, and cultural sensitivity.
Yearly Salary Range: $55,000-$77,000 dependent on experience and educational
background.
