Summary:

The Biomed Engineer Technician I Performs duties assigned by the Supervisor in accordance with current policies and procedures. Perform preventive maintenance, safety test, incoming inspection, installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and documentation for assigned patient care equipment. Performs assigned duties with close supervision and according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Travel to CHS facilities may be required to perform scheduled / unscheduled maintenance on hospital equipment. Performs all other duties assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Understands the concept of Preventive Maintenance. Demonstrates knowledge of codes and standards, guidelines and the test procedures used to verify performance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair various medical and non-medical devices using test equipment.
  • Understands the importance of documenting maintenance history of medical equipment. Completes documentation for scheduled and unscheduled work performed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical equipment and has a good understanding of its use in the medical environment. Understands the costs of repairs, can disposition equipment and recommend repair/replacement based on costs.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to provide technical and clinical support.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative attitude. Displays a willingness to accept new tasks. Requires little supervision after being trained and is a self starter performing routine tasks without being directed to do.
  • Uses designated locations to store spare parts, incoming and outgoing parts and equipment. Uses “tags” to identify equipment / parts status. Promptly orders spare parts and when required ensure parts are “return to vendor” (i.e., exchange parts, cores, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology from accredited college or military medical repair specialist school or equivalent electronic training and experience, required.
  • Required Experience: 0 -2 years of industry experience or military setting with electronics background.
  • Required License/Registration/Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred License/Registration/Certification: Association for the of Medical Instrumentation, AAMI, certification is a plus.Computer Skills Required: Ability to use a word processor, spreadsheet software, and database.

  • The Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions and; therefore, job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found within general office, administrative and warehouse work.
  • The Employee may be required to travel to CHS facilities to perform scheduled / unscheduled maintenance possibly with little prior notice.
