I am sourcing for a highly experienced and strategic Associate Vice President of Public Affairs with a focus on healthcare to lead this organization's external communication efforts in this critical sector.
This candidate needs 7+ years of experience (2+ in management) and to possess a strong policy comms background and hill-facing experience. They will be passionate about building client relationships and executing communications materials.

Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic public affairs plans tailored to the healthcare sector, aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide visionary leadership to the public affairs team, ensuring alignment with overall corporate strategies and healthcare industry trends.
- Serve as the primary healthcare spokesperson and media liaison, managing relationships with healthcare journalists, editors, and industry influencers.
Media Relations and Communication:
- Oversee the creation of compelling communication materials specific to healthcare, including press releases, op-eds, speeches, and presentations.
- Monitor healthcare media coverage and industry trends, providing strategic guidance and proactive responses as needed.
- Lead crisis communication efforts within the healthcare space, developing rapid response strategies and coordinating messaging during sensitive situations.
Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key healthcare stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, patient advocacy groups, and industry associations.
- Drive advocacy efforts to advance healthcare policy priorities, representing the organization's interests and fostering collaboration with external partners.
Thought Leadership and Reputation Management:
- Identify opportunities for thought leadership and media engagement to elevate the organization's profile within the healthcare industry.
- Manage social media strategies and online reputation management efforts specific to healthcare, enhancing brand awareness and engagement.
Strategic Counsel and Evaluation:
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on healthcare public affairs issues, regulatory matters, and emerging trends.
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of healthcare public affairs initiatives, measuring key performance indicators and adjusting strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, healthcare administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Extensive experience in public affairs, media relations, or corporate communications within the healthcare sector, with a demonstrated track record of success in leadership roles.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans specifically tailored to the healthcare landscape, driving measurable results and impact.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex healthcare issues clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
- Strong media relations skills and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare media environments, including traditional and digital platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and advocacy groups.
- Strategic thinker with a forward-thinking mindset, able to anticipate and navigate healthcare policy changes and regulatory environments.
- Experience managing crisis communications and navigating sensitive healthcare issues with discretion and professionalism.
- Proficiency in healthcare-specific media monitoring tools, social media platforms, and digital analytics.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare policy issues, regulatory frameworks, and government relations at the local, national, and international levels.
